TED Lecture 50: Surfing Photographers' Happiness in Ice Waves

First of all, this TED talk focuses on reviewing:

The pleasure of surfing in ice water.

Surfing photographers chose a very risky career instead of a mediocre life.

The longer a photographer travels in many beautiful places, the more dissatisfied he becomes. He is going to start a journey to break the mediocrity. So he chose a surfer photographer, but he found it boring to set out for adventure. He realized that any profession in the world, even one that looks like a surfer photographer, is in danger of becoming monotonous.

After many hardships, I went to the coldest places in the world, the Arctic Circle and Iceland.

Swimming in the water of MINUS 10 degree, even my hands are too cold to press the shutter.

When his friend rescued him from the water, his friend said that he always had a smile on his face, even though he didn't realize it at all.

At that moment, I was almost delirious with cold, but I felt the purest happiness and satisfaction, and the satisfaction brought by the hard pursuit all the way.

In the end, he also realized his ideal. In the coldest place and the quietest place, he felt unprecedented happiness. Because he made a lot of efforts to get there.

He brought a very valuable sentence to the children:

There is no shortcut in life, and anything worth pursuing will make us suffer.

I grew up in the south and have never seen snow in my life. I have never experienced what it feels like to be below 0 degrees.

Besides listening to friends say that the north is dry and cold, the south is wet and cold.

But I am afraid of the cold. Maybe it's only five or six degrees. I'm shivering with cold.

The coldest thing I have ever experienced in my life is to take a cold bath in high school for three years.

At that time, it was not that water could not be boiled, but that cold water could make the body better.

It was true that there were few colds at that time.

What impressed me the most was that the weather was very cold and it was raining. It should be only three or four degrees.

I took a cold bath that day. However, as soon as the cold water passes, a warm current spreads all over the body, which is very comfortable.

The difference between a cold bath and a hot bath is that,

It looks terrible before cold water washing and feels cold, but it feels warm and warm after passing by. It may take a long ideological struggle before washing. hahaha

A hot bath before washing is very comfortable, and it is very cold after washing.

Although I never took a cold shower after graduating from high school, the experience is still fresh in my memory.

1). Any profession, even one that looks like a surfer photographer, is in danger of becoming monotonous!

A. Experience what an actor sees in his life:

This reminds me of a sentence: happiness lies elsewhere! Other people's lives always look happy! Other people's children are always so cute, and other people's husbands are always so considerate and successful! Other people's work always looks interesting and rich. Other people's homes always look happy!

When I observed some professions that I longed for before, I also realized that in fact, every profession has to make great efforts to succeed!

Being an actor was one of my dreams when I was a child. But the adults all say that I am not suitable and not good-looking. Later, when I grew up, I still wanted to know about it.

I watched some TV plays when I was a child, and I admired them and liked the people in them. I think the actor's life is fun and beautiful! One day, I have a chance to see the life of an actor.

I shot a scene of a high school student. A group of people were bored and waited all day in costumes and makeup for a minute or even dozens of seconds in a TV series. In my opinion, such a life is not only a waste of time, but also boring. But what you may see on TV is their instantaneous scenery! Eat at noon, squat on the ground or stand to eat lunch boxes.

On another occasion, foreigners from all over the world were invited to shoot the simulation scene of the plane fault swinging from side to side on an international flight on a simulated plane at the airport. In a model plane that doesn't exist, people from all over the world are sitting there. I also translated for them at that time. Just let a foreigner say a word.

A sentence has to be NG many times, shot many times, a shot takes several minutes, and an actor may have to wait all day. Wait for the others.

From that moment on, I will never watch idolization, never pursue drama, and never envy the life of actors. I haven't watched the whole TV series for years.

Also because of the mage's words: many TV dramas are fake. The more tears you shed for marriage and love on TV, the more your real marriage will be affected. The more your blessing will be destroyed. This is another reason why I seldom go to the theatre.

But it will also be very touching to see some news, such as the true feelings of the world, such as the reunion of father and son, the reunion of mother and child or some separation of family ties. But not the whole episode.

So learn to have fun in your career.

Be a champion in the profession and deepen your skills in the profession.

B. Experience the joy of dancing

When I was a child, I envied seeing people who could dance on the stage. I also like dancing very much.

One year, a few friends and I formed a dance team and used our off-duty hours and weekends to rehearse.

That year, I learned more than a dozen dances, and went to a venue with 100 people 1000 people with my friends to perform and enjoy the applause of others. But behind it is the result of our hard training of every movement, and sometimes it is very distressing to practice! Those who are highly accomplished in dancing are very similar to athletes and martial arts actors, because many dancers also have many injuries.

So behind any success is great efforts.

So, from here, I realize that the first element to achieve something that makes me very satisfied is love! When you love it, persistence will become simple, because when you do it, you will feel happy. There would be no word persistence. Persistence has both painful and compulsive elements. If you love it, you will forget the time and throw yourself into it! You can overcome all kinds of difficulties and feel the satisfaction, happiness and accomplishment of progress!

If you haven't found what you love, pretend to like what you are doing now!

2). In life, there is no shortcut to happiness, and anything worth pursuing has to suffer.

Thanks to the surfer photographer for reminding me of this sentence again.

I think people will live like they hate and want to get what they want without pain. If you don't want to suffer, you want to get the same result as others!

Happiness is not the result of pursuit, but a feeling in the process!

After my own personal experience and listening to other people's stories,

I am also more aware that if you want to pursue something of value, you must be prepared for hardship!

TED talk, I originally used it to study just to improve my English and improve my oral English. Later, I found that every speech was authoritative. Every speaker has made great achievements in his own field. They came to tell their stories to tell the world a word, a very valuable word!

I also found that after reading their stories, I also remembered many of my own stories.

Many people say that writing makes a person change a lot!

Many experiences we haven't told others, we can dig out some things that may be useful to us through writing.

The teacher said that speech and writing are very influential outputs!

Writing can also improve oral English quickly! Be a person who loves life and is good at observing!

There is no road in life in vain, every step counts! Perhaps, the great achievements made one day are accumulated because of the wisdom summed up by those small attempts and failures in the past!
