Guangxi has not only Guilin, but also a secret place to watch birds, monkeys and waterfalls.

When it comes to Guangxi, everyone's first reaction may be "Guilin's landscape is the best in the world". But what I don't know is that in the west of Nanning, Guangxi, that is, Chongzuo area, there are many world-class natural wonders within 2 hours' drive!

Here, you can watch and photograph the world's most endangered primates at close range, watch and photograph dozens of rare and endemic birds, punch in the largest transnational waterfall in Asia, drift in the scenic Grand Canyon and enjoy the real green mountains and green waters. If you are a lover of nature and wildlife, don't miss it. Come and explore this magical place with us!

Chongzuo white-headed langur nature reserve

We first came to the Baitou langur National Nature Reserve in the suburb of Chongzuo. The most attractive place here is probably the place where it is the easiest to see the primate stars of national first-class protected animals, and the commercial operation of eco-tourism is relatively mature, so it is easy to see wild white-headed langurs without feeding at all, which is definitely one of the few in China!

The status of white-headed langur

There are many kinds of monkeys in the world, but the status of white-headed langurs is very high because they:

1. Species endemic to China can only be seen in China.

2. The distribution is narrow, and it only lives in the karst landform habitat in Chongzuo, Guangxi.

3, the number is rare, less than the giant panda, belonging to the extremely dangerous level (the third level of the endangered level, and then extinct in the wild, the giant panda is currently in a vulnerable state, two levels lower than it).

White-headed langur is a unique primate in China and Guangxi, and the only primate discovered and named by China scholars. At present, it is only distributed in the karst rocky mountainous area of about 200 square kilometers in Chongzuo City, Guangxi.

Enter the white-headed langur reserve, take a battery car for ten minutes (or walk hundreds of meters) to find the cliff where the white-headed langur lives, and then you can wait patiently, watch and shoot. Because monkeys' daily activities and behaviors are relatively fixed, they usually come out for food in the morning and rest in the morning. You may come to the pond to drink water at noon, continue foraging in the afternoon, and return to the cliff to rest before dusk, so it is easier to find their trajectory and the population is stable. Once they move, it's hard to see them.

If you are lucky, you can definitely take a good photo if you watch it very close.

This year, these monkeys have four newborn monkeys. The white-headed langur, like other langurs, is golden, so if you go at the end of April, you can still see the golden baby nestled in your mother's arms. So cute!

Coming here to watch and shoot the white-headed langur and promote it can not only let more people know about the rare species unique to China, but also provide the best and most direct support for the ecological economy of the local reserve.

Nong Gang painiao

After watching the monkeys, you can also watch and shoot some rare birds.

Nong Gang, which is less than an hour's drive from Chongzuo, is also a national nature reserve, while Longhengtun, outside Nong Gang National Nature Reserve, has become a gathering place for many birds due to its unique geographical advantages, with a large number and concentrated distribution. There are many kinds of star birds, including Indo-China green magpie, white-browed brown woodpecker, long-tailed broad-billed bird, blue-bearded night bee tiger and Nong Gang ear owl.

With the mature operation of bird catching spots and the important position of Nong Gang in the eyes of bird catchers, Longhengtun has become a well-known "bird-loving, bird-protecting, bird-watching and bird-shooting" base in China, and it is also a model for promoting eco-tourism economy in China.

Winter every year until spring and summer of the following year is the best season for bird watching and shooting. Especially since the middle and late April, many birds have entered the breeding season, and they have the opportunity to photograph the scene of brooding in the wild bunker (without disturbing the brooding behavior of birds). These are the most exciting scenes for birdwatchers to shoot birds.

In addition to shooting birds in Longhengtun, it is also a secret place in daxin county, which is an hour's drive away. At the end of April, I had the opportunity to photograph the wonderful scene of crested hornbills brooding on the cliff. You know, crested hornbills usually inhabit tropical rainforests and basically breed in tree holes. This can be seen in Yunnan hornbill valley, but it is extremely rare to photograph the crested hornbill nesting and foraging in the crevices of karst landforms. Female birds enter the stone wall nest, and male birds are responsible for feeding every day. Similarly, the local natural bird guide will arrange for us to go into the bunker to shoot without disturbing the behavior of birds brooding.

Detian Waterfall

After watching and shooting the white-headed langur and many rare birds, you can drive for more than an hour to reach the Sino-Vietnamese border, where there is a famous transnational waterfall: Detian Waterfall! Waterfall is located in Detian Village, Shuolong Town, daxin county City, Chongzuo City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in the upper reaches of Guichunjiang River on the Sino-Vietnamese border. It is magnificent and connected with the nearby Banyo Waterfall in Vietnam. It is the first transnational waterfall in Asia and the fourth largest in the world.

There is also Gulongshan Canyon Scenic Area near Detian Waterfall, with few tourists. You can experience the unique drifting of green water, appreciate the natural scenery of green and energetic canyons on both sides of the strait, explore magical caves on foot and shoot the momentum of waterfalls.

Guangxi gourmet

Of course, the food in Guangxi is also not to be missed, which is also a part of natural travel! Although many small restaurants are not luxurious, they are clean and tidy, and the dishes are very distinctive, satisfying the hungry appetite on every trip!
