Plot

Tong Li’s family of three lived in a village on the outskirts of Peking. Because they had no money to repay their debts, the husband was forced to death by the landlord. She and her daughter Daxiang were unable to make a living, so they went to the city in the autumn of 1947 and stayed at the house of their aunt Sun, making a living by sewing and washing clothes for others. Shang Youlin, a young worker who lived in the same hospital, took good care of their mother and daughter, and Daxiang gradually fell in love with him. In order to make money, Aunt Sun, who had evil intentions, secretly colluded with the gangster Ma San, and in the name of introducing work, she tricked and sold Daxiang to a brothel run by Cui Huzi and Yan Zhihu as a prostitute, and she fell into the trap of fire. The tortured Daxiang wanted to leave her career as a comedian, so she turned to a fake inspector who came to the brothel to check the donation certificate. Unexpectedly, the fake inspector who had been bribed by the Cui couple not only refused to help, but instead helped the evildoer, causing Daxiang to be even more persecuted. . Tong Li was unable to save her daughter and committed suicide in the river in pain. Shang Youlin tried every means to redeem Daxiang's life, but was brutally beaten by gangsters and lost both his life and property. After the liberation of Peiping in 1949, the People's Government closed the brothels. The gangster Ma San and Cui's wife were both punished. Daxiang and other prostitutes finally escaped from the sea of ??suffering and gained a new life. The government organizes them to participate in productive labor and become self-reliant workers.
