What does the D behind Nikon lens mean?
D-head is a kind of Nikon SLR lens. The lens itself has no focusing motor, so it can't focus automatically. Auto-focusing can only be achieved by driving the body motor inside the Nikon SLR body.
This lens has been eliminated ... it has been replaced by a G-head with a focus motor. At present, Nikon's latest is the E-head, which has its own focus motor and electromagnetic aperture.
