[Processing picture balance] Picture balance

Balance is the matching of opposing elements to provide a sense of balance and coordination. Everything in nature should follow the principle of balance, and one of the principles to be followed in composition in photography is balance. In the process of shooting, we combine different visual elements into the same picture through the view frame, so as to form a balance and achieve a coordinated visual effect. In fact, many photographs that look comfortable at first glance are the result of balanced pictures.

1, balance of "safe and stable"

When the horizontal line, horizontal line and vertical line in the picture are parallel or vertical to the edge line of the picture, the whole picture will appear balanced, stable and practical, otherwise there will be tilt imbalance. For example, whether the horizontal line of the coastline and the vertical line of the building are straight or not is the most basic standard to verify the quality of a work. If you lose your balance, you will feel very uncomfortable visually. So we can also use "stability" to describe that the horizontal and vertical lines are straight with the edge of the picture.

2. Balance of symmetrical structure

When the objects at both ends of the picture are equal and identical in all aspects, it is called symmetrical balance, which is static and stable. The relatively lively and vivid symmetrical balance will appear dull and rigid, and it also deviates from the golden section composition rule. However, when it is applied to different photographic works, it will bring about the balance of the picture, and the works will expand outward because of this balanced structure.

In addition to the symmetry of parallel structures, symmetrical balance can also make use of the reflection of water surface, the spread of beautiful clouds, the shadow of objects, etc., to create a structural layout that is symmetrical up and down.

3, the balance of the main form

A stable appearance can bring a better sense of balance to the picture, otherwise it will weaken the sense of balance of the picture. Of all the figures, triangle is undoubtedly the best, followed by square, and circle has the worst sense of stability. The stability of a figure depends entirely on the contact area between its bottom and the ground. The larger the contact area, the stronger the stability.

4. Color balance

The cold and warm tones and color shades in the color will also greatly affect the balanced structure of the picture. Visually, cool colors are heavier than warm colors, and dark colors are heavier than light colors. When the number of warm colors and cold colors, or dark colors and light colors are the same, the picture will be unbalanced. At this time, we can make full use of this visual difference of color and combine the main requirements to better arrange the proportion of different tones in the picture to achieve balance.

6, the balance of light and shade distribution

Photography is the art of light and shadow. The lightness of a work, like tone and color, will also have a great influence on the balance of the picture. The bright tone is lighter than the dark tone, while the bright color block is lighter than the dark tone in the picture, and the darker the dark tone, the heavier it will be. Through the reasonable distribution of light and shade in the picture, different balance effects can be created.

7. Balance between static and dynamic reality

Because of the lack of texture between emptiness and movement, the balance between static and emptiness is lighter. This combination is used in many works, and the dynamic and static pictures and the virtual and real pictures form a complementary relationship, so as to achieve an ideal balanced structural relationship and present an artistic effect. Generally, dynamic virtual balance is more interesting than static real balance.

7. Balance of quantity combination

Shooting works with points as the main component often encounter more or less phenomena in a symmetrical structure. If we can't arrange the quantity distribution in the picture well, it will cause the imbalance of the whole picture. In this case, we can arrange multiple small combinations to correspond to a single large one according to the situation of the picture, so as to achieve a sense of balance in quantity distribution.

8, the balance of different elements

Combining many unrelated elements can form an interesting complementary and balanced relationship. Such as points and lines, people and things. Through the reasonable combination and arrangement of these elements in the picture, these unrelated things will form a visual balance, which will not only produce mutual forces, but also bring visual associations.

9. Deliberately create imbalance

This question is mainly about balance, and balance is relative. On more photographic subjects, such as architectural design, portrait, humanistic documentary, macro and so on. The requirement for balance is far less harsh and rigorous than traditional landscape works, because landscape works emphasize the balanced layout of foreground and background in order to achieve the ideal result of balanced distribution of pictures. However, many photographic subjects, including some landscape works, sometimes deliberately give up this balanced structure and deliberately create or even enlarge the sense of instability of the picture to meet the connotation to be expressed in the works.
