Beginners must learn photography and photometry in detail.

A photo should be exposed correctly to look good! Photometry is very important in photography. Shooting different types of photos requires different metering modes, and you can take a good look at my sharing if you are confused ~

You can try more, different metering will have different shooting effects! Pay attention to the difference between focusing and metering. The separation of focusing and photometry will bring us richer shooting effects ~

1. Learn photometry

Literally, "metering" is a verb, so metering is a process of action, that is, judging the light and shade through metering, so that the camera can achieve correct exposure.

For a simple example, our eyes will automatically adjust the light environment, so we can see the surrounding situation clearly whether in a sunny environment or in a dark environment.

The same is true for cameras, which measure a given aperture shutter combination to achieve correct exposure. For example, when the camera is set to "Aperture Priority" mode, the lens is aimed at a specific object to be measured, and then the shutter is half pressed to measure light. At this time, the system will automatically give a corresponding shutter value and combine it with the set aperture value to form a set of exposure combinations that the camera thinks are correct.

Evaluation photometry

This mode is the most commonly used metering mode, which is called "evaluation metering" by Canon and "matrix metering" by Nikon. This mode is an average measure of the overall lighting effect, so it is especially suitable for shooting large scenes with uniform light, the most typical of which is landscape photography.

Fixed point photometry

Spot metering refers to metering a point, which is usually the center of the whole picture, accounting for about 9% of the whole picture. The advantage of this method is that it can measure the most suitable place in a certain picture according to the photographer's preference, especially when the contrast between light and dark in the scene is strong, or the subject can measure the light correctly without interference from other nearby lights. It is often used in scenes such as strong backlight, and it is hoped that only the height of a person's face can be measured.

4. Partial measurement

Partial metering is usually considered as a branch of spot metering, which is a unique metering method of Canon cameras. The range of metering is slightly larger than that of spot metering, which is represented by icons and is more suitable for shooting objects such as stage and portrait. A very common scene is shooting people against the light.

5. Center key average metering

In this mode, the metering will be biased towards the center of the picture, taking into account the edge of the picture, so this metering mode is suitable for shooting scenes with the main body in the center of the picture, such as portraits, buildings, still life, macro inspection and so on.
