Meat photography
Soon after the novice friend started to learn photography, he would hear a sentence in the old bird meat format. What kind of format is this, how can it be so respected, and what is the difference between it and the JPG format that we usually use the most? Let's use a picture to illustrate it first.
It is not difficult to see that JPG (sometimes called JPEG) format is a format obtained by secondary operation in the camera, while Raw gets the original data.
In this second operation, the data in JPG format will be destroyed or even lost, so the information actually stored is actually reduced, in short, the image quality is damaged. This damage is not obvious in low-quality photos, but it may be fatal for high-quality photos.
Therefore, experienced photographers will choose Raw format to store the original information, which is convenient for later adjustment.
Bottom line: take pictures in Raw format.
(Note: Different brands of cameras have different suffix file names in Raw format, such as .cr2 of Canon. Nikon and nef. Sony's arw).
Because Raw is a directly recorded screen, it often looks gray and needs to be adjusted later, which is why Raw doesn't look as good as JPG (maybe it is also the reason why some people think that the color taken by mobile phones is better than that taken by cameras).
This is the difference between the two formats. The color of JPG is obviously too bright, while the color of RAW is closer to reality.
Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the two formats, we can see that the two formats actually have their own advantages and disadvantages, but for most of us photographers, the picture quality is absolutely above everything else, so the high-quality Raw format has certainly become a well-deserved choice.
In addition to these two formats, there are other formats that deserve our attention.
This table lists the more common and commonly used formats, and you can choose to use them according to their characteristics and uses.
Take myself as an example. I shoot in Raw format. After retouching, I will save the photos in lossless TIF (also known as Tiff) format, and then export them to JPG format for publishing on the Internet.
Although this is a bit troublesome, it can keep the picture quality in the best condition to the maximum extent, and will not cause the loss of high-quality photos due to compression or other operations.
Friends who are still shooting with JPG, don't hurry to set the camera shooting format to Raw. Can't set it? Explain ~ ~ ~
