Using the five elements of user experience to dismantle niche APP Pott

I recently learned about the five levels of user experience, which are the five elements, and I want to use it to dismantle and analyze the niche APP Pott.

As shown in the figure, these five elements from bottom to top, from abstract to concrete, are: strategy layer, scope layer, structure layer, framework layer and presentation layer.

The strategic layer is the lowest level and the basis of a product. It includes two aspects, product positioning and user needs.

Product positioning:

Pott is a high-quality photo sharing community based on urban locations. You can create your own world map in Pott, or you can follow the city explorer to discover new places hidden in the world. This is Pott’s official introduction. From this we can see that Pott’s product positioning should be a content community product that relies on high-quality urban pictures as a link.

User needs:

For travel photography enthusiasts: Through this platform, you can publish your beautiful photos and gain the attention and praise of others.

For city explorers: You can discover new places in the same city through this platform, saving users the cost of exploring the city.

For general users, you can also check in and unlock locations by uploading photos.

Based on the product positioning and user pain points determined by the strategic layer, the scope layer determines the basic and core functions of the product and solves the pain points.

Basic functions:

Posting updates: As a content product, posting updates is essential.

Chat function: You can directly initiate a chat with those who are interested.

Featured functions:

Publish updates based on location: When publishing updates on content products, you can add geographic location. For example, WeChat Moments and Weibo have this function. But when Pott publishes updates, it can publish them directly based on the geographical location when the photo was taken, saving users the time it takes to find photos in the same place.

Generate footprint map: When Pott publishes updates, it must publish its location, which is also determined by product positioning. In addition, Pott can generate private footprint maps based on dynamic locations posted by users, either in China or around the world. This feature increases users’ willingness to share and can attract more users to participate.

Wave: After the updates at a certain location, the system will push users who "just checked in here" and you can directly wave to these users to increase the user activity of the product.

Here select the process of publishing updates.

Local recommendations on the recommendation page

This interface is the homepage after opening the APP, but it is not consistent with the "local" logo above. It just recommends more high-quality places instead of The first recommendation is "nearest to me". Personally, I think this is because the pictures of high-quality locations are of better quality and are more attractive to users.

Switching from the top to the "Recommended" interface focuses more on the display of pictures and retains the search entry. However, the stacking of a large number of pictures also seems a bit disorganized, which can easily dazzle users.

The "Follow" interface is relatively simple, and it also retains the search entrance. At the same time, you can see some comments more intuitively, as well as like, comment, and collect the updates.

Clear structure: The tab at the bottom shows the functions that should be used. Users can clearly understand the functional entrance of the application. The structure is basically relatively clear.

Simple and beautiful: There are no text descriptions for various icons, which are very simple and consistent with the overall style of the APP. However, the lack of written instructions also makes it more difficult for users to use.

This APP is simple and elegant, suitable for the usage habits of young people, and also conforms to the collecting habits of contemporary young people. It checks in and collects the places they have visited, which promotes the impulse of young people to open the APP again. However, the content review is not good enough. Many users still posted some emoticons during use, which cannot promote the healthy development of the entire APP.

This is the first time that I have used the "Five Elements of User Experience" to analyze the entire product. I have improved my thinking to a certain extent, but there are still many shortcomings. I hope you will give me some advice.
