Exploring the Yangtze River and Winning the Three Gorges Project (the second day): the mysterious 8 16 project site

The "Discovery of the Yangtze River" we took this time was praised as the top Yangtze River steamer on the Internet, and was once included in the gold medal by Kant ·NAST Traveler. It is the only luxury cruise ship on the Yangtze River that has won this honor. I have received many celebrities, as can be seen from the names of several luxury suites, such as Kissinger and Buffett.

The interior of Discovery of the Yangtze River comes from a British designer based in Hong Kong. It uses a lot of wood and has a thick carpet of Hong Kong style, which shows that it is a combination of Chinese and western design that foreigners like.

Room size is one of the highlights of Discovery, and it has the largest basic room on the Yangtze River. All the outer cabins are equipped with balcony as standard, with an area of 3 1 m2.

The facilities in the room are very contemporary, but they are well maintained. The spare part is Juliko, which is supplied to Fiji water in unlimited quantities every day.

In the evening, the cruise ship set off and slowly moved away from the hustle and bustle of Chongqing. After a night's voyage, we arrived at the first scenic spot on the shore-Fuling 8 16 scenic spot, which is also the exclusive scenic spot arranged by the Yangtze River expedition.

Our tour in 8 16 scenic spot is divided into two parts. First, I visited the 8 16 underground nuclear engineering site, and then I visited the town transformed by the mechanical processing plant.

The 8 16 project site is an underground nuclear plant, which provided nuclear materials for the manufacture of atomic bombs in the 1960s. It was a top secret military base. In August 2002, the project of KLOC-0/6 was declassified, and 20 18 was listed in the List of Industrial Heritage Protection in China. Now, this former military base has been officially transformed into a national 4A-level scenic spot.

The 8 16 project started from 1966. It took eight years to drill the cave and nine years to install the equipment. More than 60,000 people have participated in this big project. The project is more than 20 kilometers long and completely hidden inside the mountain. It is the largest artificial cave in the world.

The main cavern of the project is nearly 80m high, and the vault span is 31.2m high. There are totally 8 large caverns1,and there are more than 30 roads, pilot tunnels, shafts1for large trucks. The whole building is a hole in a hole, a building in a hole, and a hole in a building.

However, the plan cannot keep up with the changes. 1984 due to the adjustment of national strategy, the project was stopped. When the construction stopped, the project had completed 85% of the construction and 65% of the installation works. Therefore, 8 16 has never been really started and used, and nuclear materials have never been produced or stored, so there is no need to worry about radiation. Because of this, 8 16 has become an extremely rare large-scale nuclear power plant in the world.

Young friends are not familiar with the "third-line construction" and are quite kind to the elderly tourists on board.

One old photo after another has a history of 36 years.

After declassification, the 8 16 site, which is ready to be opened as a tourist attraction, has undergone all-round transformation and upgrading, retaining the true features of the project core area. Besides caves, tunnels and shafts, you can also see the main building, reaction hall, reaction kettle, central control room, motor and control equipment.

Now, lighting beautification has been added to the venue, making this very hard-core scenic spot more "Cyberpunk".

Tip: After visiting the project site, you need to walk all the way and climb the stairs. It is recommended to wear comfortable and non-slip shoes.

After visiting the ruins, we went to the next scenic spot-816 town. Less than10km away from the project site. Its predecessor was 8 16 supporting machinery processing plant, and so far it has preserved more than 40 old industrial buildings and 100 sets of modern military machinery and equipment, including the third-line construction period.

The location of the town is very good, with Wujiang Gallery in front and Wuling Mountain Rift Valley behind. There is a big lawn overlooking the beautiful mountains, which should be a "potential" internet celebrity.

The town is small in size. At present, the first phase is open, with military exhibition hall, film and television service center (taking theme photos), supporting homestays, bookstores and cafes, which are appropriately mixed with "abandoned industrial style" and civilized design.

One of the biggest attractions is the military exhibition hall, which I think is better than the 8 16 site in terms of design and visiting experience. Looking back at these highly confidential war preparations, people are filled with emotion. This is the best interpretation of "there are no quiet years, but someone is carrying the burden for us."

At the end of the exhibition, there is a huge poster of "two bombs and one satellite". Really? National hero.

Another design I like in town is Starlight Bookstore, with a row of large floor-to-ceiling windows facing the lawn, which is suitable for emptying and staring blankly.

After playing in the town for more than two hours, we returned to the boat. Climbing up and down on this day, everyone said it was most comfortable to sit on the balcony and watch the scenery.

The dinner that day was a three-course western food and the only order on the cruise ship. There are two choices in each course. Frankly speaking, the taste is average, but the sense of ceremony is still in place.

Outside the window, the twilight is heavy and the Yangtze River is rolling. Tomorrow we will really cross Qutang Gorge, the first gorge of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.
