Xiamen Travel Guide

Xiamen’s famous attractions include Gulangyu Island, Xiamen University, Xiamen Botanical Garden, Nanputuo Temple, Yanwu Bridge, Zengcuo’an, Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street, Dingao Zai Cat Street, The seaside, Bailuzhou Park, etc.

The following will be explained one by one

Weather: It was early November 2016 when I went there. It was still very hot in Xiamen. I brought a lot of long sleeves, but I couldn’t wear them at all. The streets are full of bare-legged girls. However, it is still a bit cold at night, so if you are afraid of the cold, you can bring long sleeves and long pants.

Gulangyu Island

Gulangyu Island is really beautiful. I strongly recommend staying on the island for one night. It is even more beautiful at sunrise and sunset. It takes 5-6 hours to travel around the island and take photos. about. You must take a boat to enter and leave Gulangyu Island. It is best to book the boat ticket one day in advance (WeChat ticket booking WeChat ID: Xiamen Ferry Co., Ltd.). In order to limit the flow, you cannot enter the island if you cannot buy a boat ticket, and the policies for citizens and tourists are different.

Visitors can only choose from the cruise center Xiagu Pier during the day - Gulangyu Sanqiutian Pier or Gulangyu Neicuoao Pier. The ship operation time is 7:10-17:30 (June-September) (18:30), or Haicang Songgu Pier - Gulangyu Neicuoao Pier, ship operation time is 7:10-17:50 (18:50 from June to September).

17:50 (18:50 from June to September)----Tourists please go to Hall 2 of Xiamen Ferry Terminal to take a boat to Gulangyu Sanqiutian Pier at 6:30 the next day. Overnight flights from 23:45 to 4:15 the next day adopt the method of buying tickets after boarding the ship. Passengers need to buy tickets from the staff after boarding the ship (35 yuan/round trip). For flights from 5:15 to 6:30, You need to purchase tickets at the ticket office before riding.

The ferry ticket is a real-name ticket. When checking in, you must verify that the ticket, ticket purchase certificate and the passenger are the same before you can board the boat.

The ferry ticket is a round-trip ticket and is valid within 20 days of the return trip. For the outbound journey (to the island), you must take the boat according to the date, voyage and location of the purchased ticket. There are no restrictions on flights for the return trip (departing the island). Visitors can take the return flight at Sanqiutian Pier or Neicuoao Pier. Sanqiutian Pier is open 24 hours a day, and return flights depart for Xiamen Ferry Terminal (near Zhongshan Road) after 17:40 (18:40 from June to September). The operating hours of Neicuoao Pier are 7:20-17:40 (18:40 from June to September).

15:00 to 18:30 is the peak time for the return trip from Gulangyu Island. Queuing for tickets and waiting for the boat will take a long time, so please plan your itinerary in advance.

After booking the ferry ticket, swipe your second-generation ID card to board the boat without picking up the ticket. For the convenience of sightseeing, I chose to go from the cruise center Xiagu Pier to Gulangyu Sanqiutian Pier. Sanqiutian Pier is very close to Haoyue Garden, where the statue of Zheng Chenggong is.

You can buy a pass for the scenic spots on Gulangyu Island, and the ticket price is 100 yuan.

I have not eaten or stayed on the island, so I unfortunately cannot give you any advice on this.

I won’t go into details about the scenery, it’s beautiful, go see it for yourself.

Xiamen University

Xiamen University is worth visiting because it is beautiful and romantic. Xiamen University is open to tourists on a limited basis. They need to bring their second-generation ID cards and no tickets are required. Xiamen University is usually referred to as the Siming Campus of Xiamen University. The opening hours are from 12:00 to 14:00 and after 17:00 every day from Monday to Friday. Tourists are not accepted during the rest of the time, and the number of visitors is also limited from 12:00 to 14:00. It is open to the public normally on weekends, holidays and winter and summer vacations. It is worth mentioning that Xiamen University has a Lover’s Valley, but I didn’t go there. I regretted it for two seconds.

Nanputuo Temple

It is right behind Xiamen University. It is also free and you don’t even need an ID card. It is a very famous temple in the south and has produced many eminent monks, so you can go to the incense at your leisure. The view when you climb to the highest peak is very nice. There is a Buddhist Scripture Pavilion inside which I am very interested in, but it is not open to tourists. There is also a vegetarian restaurant inside. If you are interested, you can try it.

Xiamen Botanical Garden

This attraction is the most regrettable. At first, I felt that there was nothing interesting in the botanical garden, but after entering, I realized that there is something special inside. Mainly because there are many tropical and subtropical plants, beautiful flowers and trees, and pavilions and pavilions, which are very new to children in the north. But because I went too late, I didn’t even have time to take a good look. The entrance fee is 40 yuan. It is one bus stop away from Xiamen University. It is just across the Zhonggushan Tunnel from Xiamen University West Village. There is a magnificent Martyrs Memorial Cemetery near the Botanical Garden.

Bailuzhou Park

It is a large lake area with beautiful scenery. There are real egrets, which is suitable for taking pictures. If you have enough time, you can get a bicycle card and drive around. The Xiamen Municipal Government is nearby.

Yanwu Bridge

It is very close to Xiamen University and is open to tourists for free. It is suitable for viewing at night. It is an overpass built into the sea. The Yanwu Bridge was built on the ruins of the ancient Yanwu Pond and the Yanwu Field. It faces the statue of Zheng Chenggong across the sea on the west side. Therefore, the bridge is named after the local place name "Yanwu" related to Zheng Chenggong.

Ding'aozi Cat Street

It is a small neighborhood in Xiamen. There are graffiti and sculptures of cats on both sides of the road. People who are poop removers, please go there on your own. It is also near Xiamen University and free of charge. .

Xiamen Beach

The street trees on the street include king coconut trees, palm trees, cycads and banyan trees, etc., which are different from the sea in the north and very romantic.

There are often young brothers singing "Keep My Sorrow to Myself" and "Those Flowers" at the beach with a guitar in hand.

Zengcuo'an and Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street

These two places are not far from Xiamen University. They are famous snack streets and shopping resorts, and both places are by the sea. After eating You can go to the beach to eat. Zhongshan Road is a long-established commercial street with arcade buildings unique to southern Fujian. There are many snacks, such as sand tea noodles and ginger duck. Foodies must go there.

Summary

Xiamen is not a big place, and residential buildings are concentrated in many places, but what cannot be stopped is its romantic atmosphere and petty bourgeois sentiment. The most important thing is that the scenic spots are concentrated near Xiamen University, and many of them are free, making it very convenient to visit.
