Datong airport (station) hotel-special lecture on ancient buildings
1933 In the early autumn, Liang Sicheng and Lin set off from Xizhimen Station in Beijing and arrived at the ancient city of Datong after a night's drive.
It was a rainy and muddy morning. In this once prosperous Xijing, it is now full of depression. They finally found a place to stay, and every meal was just a big bowl of noodle soup.
Huayan Temple in Datong-Shanhua Temple-Liangsicheng Museum-Yungang Grottoes
What concerns Liang Sicheng most is a thousand-year-old temple-Huayan Temple, which has been preserved since the Liao Dynasty. In the later investigation report, he recorded his surprise when he first entered Huayan Temple: "The temple is nine rooms wide, standing on the platform, and the rest of the generation has a glimpse of the whole leopard, which is amazing as a huge structure. Huayan Temple was built in Xi Zhong, Liao for seven years (1038), and is famous for its well-preserved buildings in Liao and Jin Dynasties. The Great Hall of Heroes is huge, and the kiss on the roof alone is several meters high. The statues of Liao Dynasty in the sutra depository of Bhagavad gita school are more vivid, and a mighty bodhisattva with folded hands and claws is even more vivid. It was once called Venus of the East. Standing on the platform in front of the Hall of Great Heroes, I can't help feeling the gloomy vigor of classical craftsmen.
Shanhua Temple in the south of the city is the second destination of Liang Sicheng's trip. Unexpectedly, in this humble temple, he found the largest and best-preserved ancient buildings in Liao and Jin Dynasties in China. The temples thousands of years ago are far-reaching and simple, and still give people a great visual impact. The twenty-four statues of the heavens in the Jin Dynasty in the temple are particularly vivid, which makes him feel that "the statues in the temple are exquisite and the posture is wonderful."
Datong-Yingxian Hanging Temple-Yingxian Wooden Pagoda-Yingxian Jingtu Temple
Visit the Hanging Temple, which is located between the cliffs of Cuiping Peak on the west side of Jinlong Gorge in Hengshan Mountain, Beiyue. Known as "hanging temple, half a day high, three ponytails hanging in the air", it is famous for its precipitousness.
Lunch: kannika nimtragol bean jelly (specialties: Hunyuan bean jelly, peasant potato and fish, Hengshan mushroom and potato chips)
At that time, Liang Sicheng, after inspecting the ancient buildings in Datong, rode a donkey and came to Yingxian to find the oldest wooden pagoda in China, which was about to usher in another surprise discovery in his life. Fieldwork is extremely difficult, but Liang Sicheng and Lin take physical pain for granted and feel happy at work. They spent six days surveying and mapping Yingxian wooden pagoda. This wooden tower was built in the second year of Liao and Qing Dynasties (AD 1056). It was built on a four-meter-high abutment with a height of 67.3 1 m and a bottom diameter of 30.27 m. It is a plane octagon, and the arch in the tower is complex and exquisite, which is a master of wooden arches.
Yingxian-Taiyuan North Temple-nanzenji-Shanxi Museum
1The investigation of Wutai Mountain, which began in June, 937, was their last trip to North China and Shanxi. The famous East Hall of Beigao Temple was discovered in this survey, and Mr. Liang Sicheng's insistence that "China must have a wooden structure in the Tang Dynasty" finally paid off. They spent a week intensively surveying and mapping, and planned to come back to repair the church with government funds the next year. Beixing is known as "the Buddha's Light in Asia". The main hall in the temple, the East Hall, was built in 857 AD. Ranked third among the existing wooden structures in China. The buildings, sculptures, murals and inscriptions of Beidou Temple have high historical and artistic value in the Tang Dynasty, and are called "Four Musts".
The nearby nanzenji in the Tang Dynasty was built in 782 AD, which is the earliest existing wooden structure in China.
We visited Shanxi Museum, covering an area of 168 mu, with a building area of 5 1000 square meters and a precious collection of about 400,000 pieces. The basic exhibition of Shanxi Museum is based on the theme of "Jin Soul", which consists of seven historical and cultural topics, such as the cradle of civilization, traces of Xia and Shang Dynasties, the hegemony of Jin Dynasty, the melting pot of nationalities, the charm of Buddha style, the hometown of opera, Shanxi merchants in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and five artistic topics, such as civil engineering, mountains and rivers elite, calligraphy and painting, world and porcelain garden. Through this museum, we can better understand the history and cultural relics of Shanxi.
Taiyuan Jinci
Today's Jinci shrine has not changed much compared with more than 70 years ago: ancient buildings still stand between ancient wooden streams and dance floors; The beautiful courtyard is open and magnificent, with deep twists and turns, "like a temple courtyard and a gorgeous palace"; Bai Zhou and Tang Huai are still prosperous. The Notre Dame Cathedral, which most makes the two gentlemen "reluctant", was built in the ninth year of Taiping Xingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty (984) and rebuilt in the first year of Chongning (1 102). Mr. Liang thinks that Notre Dame is "more Gu Zhuo and bolder in structure, appearance and posture than the method stipulated in" Building French Style ",which should be the essence of architecture in the Northern Song Dynasty in China. Although Liang Sicheng and Lin have never revisited Shanxi and Jinci since 1930s, Mr. Liang took a camera to take a picture of the beam under the porch of Notre Dame, but it was recorded in the architectural history of China together with this building.
After lunch, send it to the station. End our investigation this time.
