But Geng has higher requirements. For him, the push-light lacquerware sold on the street is not the most traditional lacquerware. In his view, the paint on the outermost layer of lacquerware should be natural paint, not the popular chemical synthetic industrial paint on the market. Lacquerware everywhere in the street is just a fake, lacking the proper temperature of real lacquerware.

Therefore, he decided to turn the compound into an art hall integrating ancient and modern lacquer art, and displayed various precious handmade lacquerware in the old house with his two sons. And renamed the old house "Mixed Gas Zhai Yuan".

As an exhibition hall, the second floor displays all kinds of lacquer crafts that Geng Lao has worked hard to make or collect for many years, and visitors can enjoy them at will without buying tickets. Today, as the "First Hospital of Pingyao", the picture of "Shi Sheng Xianghe", the treasure of the town hospital, is even more vivid and well preserved.

Walking through the long corridor, the last old auditorium is Geng Lao's studio. For many years, he has been working here and spent his meager income on the maintenance of the compound.

He refused to make a profit, saying that this compound would be passed on to future generations.

It is difficult to repair life in the compound. Someone once suggested to Geng, "Why not transform the compound into a profitable hotel? With the specifications of the compound, it can be transformed into at least 70 rooms, so the income earned will far exceed the current income. " But it was resolutely rejected by Geng. He doesn't want to leave the compound, and he doesn't want to be a businessman who makes money from lacquerware in the downtown area. He opened a small shop with perfect procedures in the compound alone, selling his and his two sons' artworks. Art is more important to him than money.

Nowadays, Geng, who is old, still insists on not charging any visit fees and not getting a "Pingyao tourist card" to turn the compound into a commercial tourist attraction.
