Where exactly is the Hongqi Canal in Henan?

Hongqi Canal is located in Linzhou City, Henan Province. It is a national AAAAA tourist attraction and a national key cultural relics protection unit.

The Hongqi Canal was built in the 1960s by the people of Lin County (now Linzhou City) under extremely difficult conditions to divert water from the Taihang Mountains into the forest. It is known as the "artificial Tianhe" . The project started in February 1960 and was fully completed in July 1969, which lasted nearly ten years.

Linzhou City is located at the junction of Henan, Shanxi and Hebei provinces. It has suffered from severe drought and water shortage in history. Hongqi Canal is an artificially constructed irrigation canal.

The main canal of Hongqi Canal is divided into the first, second and third main canals.

The first main canal runs from the watershed along the east side of Linli Mountain to the south, passing through Shuihe, Heilongmiao, Tianjiagou, Huanghua, Taoyuan, Beixiaozhuang, Wenjiazhang and other villages to the west of Hejian Town and The Heroes' Canal joins together, with a total length of 39.7 kilometers.

The second main canal starts from the watershed and runs along Maoerling in the northeast of Yaocun Town, passing through Shenjiagang, Jiaojiatun, Majiashan, Pangcun, Huang Tomb, Yangboshantun, Zhangjiajing, Qiaojiatun, etc. Village, to the east of Madian Village, with a total length of 47.6 kilometers.

The third main canal branches off from the right side of the main canal tail (watershed) 560 meters upstream, extends to the northeast, passes through Xianyan Village to the south of Xiayanke Village and crosses the 3898-meter-long Shuguang Cave in Luzhailing. After that, it goes to the east of Dongluzhai Village, with a total length of 10.9 kilometers.
