Composition "My grandfather is a painter"
My grandfather is a famous painter.
In 1949, just after graduating from the Changsha Chinese Art School, my grandfather joined the revolutionary propaganda team and used his brush to draw various propaganda posters: "Reducing Rent to Counter Hegemony", "Returning the Land Home", etc.
In 1952, my grandfather was transferred to work in a newspaper. Over the past few decades, my grandfather has traveled all over the motherland and created rich works, which can be said to be "paintings that are as good as his own".
Grandpa's paintings are not only well-known in China. Last year, Hong Kong's "Ta Kung Pao" published three full pages of his "Travel Sketches", "Xiangxi Miao Village Customs Painting", "Three Gorges Customs" Painting" also had a strong response overseas.
Because my grandfather only thought about painting, he made a lot of jokes when he was on business trips.
Once, my grandfather went to Gezhouba to sketch and stayed in a small shop near the dam. It was so full that Grandpa had to sleep on a makeshift cold table. Late at night, the security officers woke him up and saw that he was wearing wrinkled clothes and a pair of worn-out and outdated rubber shoes. The security officers' eyes were full of suspicion and they questioned him closely. It wasn't until grandpa took out his press card that the security officer asked in confusion: "Why don't you stay in a hotel?" "It's close to the dam, so it's easy to sketch." Grandpa said calmly.
Another time, my grandfather went to a remote village to sketch. He climbed mountains and ridges and painted for a day. When he returned to the shop, he was hungry and thirsty. But what the waiter brought was bad rice. To cope with his stomach, grandpa ate big gulps. The following story is that grandpa had diarrhea for three days. From then on, grandma always brought him antidiarrheal medicine every time he went on a business trip.
Now, grandpa has retired. But he never stops working, writing and drawing all day long, which is even busier than working an 8-hour shift. Recently, my grandfather is preparing to co-author a book "China Tourism" with a geography professor at the University of Pittsburgh (Chinese-American).
For decades, my grandfather poured his love for art, his love for the majestic mountains and rivers of the motherland, and his love for life into each of his paintings. I admire my grandfather for his simplicity, diligence, and willingness to endure hardship.
I am determined to learn from my grandfather and become an accomplished "female painter" like my grandfather in the future!
