Why are many airlines suspending flights to South Korea?
Spring Airlines stated that the company currently has no more than 10 domestic routes to South Korea, with approximately 90 to 100 flights per week. The impact of the "THAAD incident" on flights between China and South Korea is currently unclear. Spring Airlines will adjust aircraft capacity and route schedules based on actual bookings. Considering that China-Korea Tours are easily replaced by tours to surrounding destinations such as China-Japan Tours and China-Thailand Tours, it is expected that this incident will have a neutral impact on the company's performance.
On March 3, websites such as Ctrip, Tuniu, and Tongcheng had removed all Korean travel products from their shelves. Tuniu also expressed its strong protest against South Korea’s deployment of the THAAD system and South Korea’s Lotte Group providing a deployment site for THAAD. Tourists who have booked related products in the near future can travel normally. If the itinerary related to Lotte Korea is involved, customer communication will be adjusted; for forward travel orders of related products, Tuniu will cancel the customer communication and provide a full refund or transfer to Other destinations.
On the same day, the China National Tourism Administration also issued a travel tip for South Korea on its official website, reminding Chinese citizens to be aware of the risks of outbound travel and to choose travel destinations carefully.
Due to the sharp drop in passenger flow, many domestic airlines have adjusted their routes to South Korea based on market conditions.
We learned from Ningbo Airport that all flights to South Korea will be suspended in the near future: China Eastern Airlines’ Ningbo-Qingzhou route will be suspended from March 15, and Ningbo-Jeju route will be suspended from March 11 Fly; Spring Airlines’ Ningbo to Jeju route has currently canceled flights from March 16 to March 26; Okay Airways’ Ningbo to Jeju route has been suspended since March 15; East Air’s Ningbo to Qingzhou route has been suspended from March Flights will be suspended from the 15th.
