The origin of Qinhuangdao's name refers to Dongshan Mountain in today's seaport area, which is an eroded remnant mountain composed of weathered granite, with an altitude of more than 20 meters and Fiona Fang less than square kilometers. Dongshan, which is connected with land, was a veritable island more than 200 years ago. It was not until the end of 19 that the island was connected with the land and became a part of the mainland with the construction of the port.
According to legend, Qinhuangdao was named after Qin Shihuang's east tour here. The name of Qinhuangdao was first found in a poem "Qinhuangdao" written by Yang Cong in the fifth year of Tianshun, Ming Yingzong (A.D. 146 1), which included the sentence "The ancient temple is far away from the clouds, and the barren platform overlooks the flowing water".
In the fourteenth year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 150 1), there was a description of Qinhuangdao in the Annals of Yongping County: "Qinhuangdao is 70 miles east of Funing County, and the mountains are in the sea. It is said that Qin Shihuang once asked for immortals to stay here." During the Wanli period, Jiang Yikui described it in more detail in Chang 'an Hakka dialect: "Li Nan has an isolated mountain, Shanhaiguan, which stands tall and independent of the sea, surrounded by water, and is called Qinhuangdao ... It is said that the Qin Emperor came to this mountain to see the scenery and was surprised to say,' The teacher here taught me to use park when reading sentences'.
After dismounting for worship, Jing bowed his head to the ground, like squatting, and it is still like this until today. There are clues from the stone, named Qin Huangshan. "After that, there are many records in local chronicles and literati poems. In the Qing dynasty, there was also the saying of Wang Qindao. The name of Wangqin Island was first seen in Funing County Records in the eighth year of Kangxi. Among them, "Wangqin Island is mistaken for Qinhuangdao, 70 miles east of the county seat, surrounded by water, but the island is in the middle. Emperor Taizong asked Han to stay here, and the island was full of thorns. According to legend, the king of Qin bowed down. "
The legend of the name of Wangqin Island is related to Li Shimin passing through this place on his way back to Korea. From then on, until the Republic of China, Qinhuangdao and Wangqin Island were used together in local chronicles and literati poems.
