How big is Huangyan Island? What man-made buildings are there on it?
Location of Huangyan Island:
Map of Huangyan Island:
Huangyan Island, formerly known as Democratic Reef, has been incorporated into Chinese territory since the Yuan Dynasty and has been under the jurisdiction for a long time, which is the inherent territory of China.
Huangyan Island is located between the north latitude1513 ′ 48 ″ and the east longitude15 ′ 24 ″ and the east longitude1kloc-0/7 40 ′12 ″. It is about 230 kilometers from the west coast of Luzon Island and about112 kilometers from Guangzhou. It belongs to Sansha City (zhongsha islands), Hainan Province, China. It is an atoll surrounded by a long and narrow coral belt, which is almost submerged at ordinary times. Huangyan Island is the only reef plate exposed to the water in the surrounding sea area of several hundred thousand square kilometers, and its strategic position is very important. Moreover, the circumference is about 50 kilometers, and the reef plate area is huge, reaching 139 square kilometers, which is more than any single reef plate in Nansha and three times the area of mischief reef in Nansha. It can be said that Huangyan Island in Zhongsha is a "few but fine" island reef. The entire shallow water area of Huangyan Island (with a water depth of about 1 m) is vast, which is very convenient for development and construction. The entrance to the reef is wide, and large ships can enter and leave after dredging and deep excavation. Because of the complete atoll barrier, the wind and waves outside the reef plate cannot enter the lagoon, and the lagoon has always been a good shelter for fishing boats.
Seen from above, Huangyan Island is a huge but nonstandard "C" shape. An oval reef plate and coral reef are about 55 kilometers long, including a 95-square-kilometer lagoon. The height of the reef exposed to the sea is generally 0.5 to 3 meters, and the surface size is generally 1 m2 to 4 m2. The reef blocks at the north and south ends are the densest, with the northern end called Beiyan and the southern end called Nanyan. Nanyan is one of the huge reefs exposed from the sea on the reef plate, which looks like a large stone pillar, with an upper area of about 3 square meters and an altitude of 1.8 meters. When the tide is low, standing at the mouth of the lake, you can see hundreds of reefs above the water at most. Mostly khaki, occasionally black. Standing on the island and looking around, the reef plate is only one or two meters deep in many places and looks like a shoal. Looking up from the bottom of the sea, Huangyan Island is a steep mountain.
There are two good times: April and May and October and November every year. The calm sea water is clear, light blue and transparent.
Climate: The South China Sea Islands have four seasons like summer, which is warm and humid, with distinct wet and dry seasons, concentrated rainy periods and abundant rainfall. Affected by the monsoon, it belongs to a typical tropical maritime monsoon climate type. ? The climate of Huangyan Island should be slightly hotter than that of Sanya and similar to that of Manila. Located in the deep sea of more than 3000 meters, it has an absolute maritime climate; It will be better than manila.
Ocean current: the ocean current near Huangyan Island changes with the monsoon; During the northeast monsoon, the northwest current and the west current dominate; The southwest monsoon is the northeast current.
Water temperature: Sansha sea area is less affected by continental climate and land runoff, while deep-sea basin has high water depth, high salinity, high transparency and small seasonal variation of water temperature. It flows to the northeast in summer and southwest in winter, with a velocity of 0. 1 nautical mile/hour ~ 1.0 nautical mile/hour. The annual average effective wave height of ocean waves is 1m ~ 2m, and the maximum effective wave height is 7.5m ~ 9.5m, ranking first among the four continental marginal seas in China. The average sea surface temperature is between 24℃ and 30℃, the temperature difference between north and south sea water and the annual temperature difference between sea water is about 2℃ and 5℃, and the temperature difference changes from north to south. However, the temperature difference between the surface and bottom of seawater (below 500 meters) is very large, which can be as high as 20℃. The salinity of seawater is between 32 ‰ and 35 ‰. The transparency of seawater is between 20 meters and 30 meters, which is higher than the other three sea areas in China.
The sea area near Huangyan Island is rich in fish resources and mineral resources, and it is a good natural fishing ground, with a large number of high-quality groupers, eels, sea carp, parrot fish, sharks, dolphins and tail fish. There are also abundant shellfish and algae resources. Huangyan Island is rich in mineral resources. Mainly manganese nodules and metal ooze, containing more than 30 kinds of metals, of which manganese, copper, cobalt and nickel are the most abundant; In addition, oil and natural gas are also extremely rich. With the decrease of land resources, it is more and more necessary to explore and develop marine resources.
