According to the latest forecast from the Macau Tourism Bureau, Macau may receive a record 35 million tourists this year, an increase of about 7%. The Macau Forum recently discussed topics such as Macau’s tourism supporting facilities and carrying capacity.

Wen Kaihua, Director of the Macau Government Tourism Office, who attended the forum, said that Macau will work hard to explore new elements in each district in the future and produce regional maps for promotion to attract tourists to different areas. Developing regional smart tourism

The "Macau Daily" report shows that Macau's inbound tourists, international tourists and overnight tourists all increased last year, with more than 32.6 million inbound tourists, an increase from the previous year 5.4%.

The Chinese market has approximately 30 million tourists, accounting for 92% of the total. Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are still the three major tourist source areas. There are more than 20 million tourists from the mainland, 41% of which are from Guangdong. The number of independent travelers from the mainland has exceeded 10 million, accounting for approximately 48% of mainland tourists.

This year, Macau is more likely to receive a record number of tourists. As the number of inbound tourists continues to increase, tourism carrying capacity has become the focus of attention. Wen Qihua said that last year, the Macau SAR government discussed smart tourism with Alibaba and determined the initial direction.

This year we will build tourism big data and introduce measures to divert tourists, such as providing tourists with information on the flow of people in various districts and time periods, and launching more new attractions to facilitate tourists to choose travel locations and avoid densely populated areas.

The average stay for overnight travelers is 2.1 days, and for annual travelers, the average stay is 1.2 days. In the first nine months of last year, total passenger spending was US$25.7 billion, an increase of 16.1% over the same period last year.

As of September this year, Macau’s inbound tourists have increased by 8%, and Macau’s overnight tourists have continued to grow, with an increase of more than 50%. As Macau's infrastructure and entertainment facilities increase, more and more tourists will go deep into Macau.

It is worth noting that the number of mainland tourists has increased significantly this year. The Macao SAR government will seize the opportunity of the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to strengthen cooperation with cities in the Greater Bay Area to strive for more tourists to visit in one stop. .

Enrich experiences and attract tourists.

Lee Cheuk-jun, president of the Central and Southern District Federation of Industry and Commerce of Macau, believes that the poor diversion effect of tourists in the past was due to insufficient tourist facilities along the diversion routes. Nowadays, Guanqian Street has many specialty shops and innovative tourism elements. I believe that diversion can also give tourists a refreshing experience.

Macau also has the conditions to develop night tourism. The SAR government can study its feasibility and explore the unique culture of each district in Macao, such as creating a special food area to drive the flow of people and economy in different areas. It is recommended to formulate a business operation model in the form of supplementary regulations to prevent old shops from being forced to close down due to substandard scale of old buildings.
