Xi'an Aviation University, referred to as Xi'an Aviation University, is a full-time general higher education institution focusing on engineering and coordinating the development of multiple disciplines. It is located in the historical and cultural city of Xi'an. The school was founded in 1955, formerly known as Xi'an Aviation Industry School and affiliated to the former Ministry of Aviation Industry. In 1957, it merged with Lanzhou Aviation Industry School. In 1960, it was upgraded to a junior college and renamed Xi'an Aviation Industry College. It was later restored due to the adjustment of the national economy. In 1985, it was upgraded to Xi'an Aviation Industry Technical College with the approval of the former State Education Commission. In 1993, it was renamed Xi'an Aviation Technology College. In 1999, it was transferred to the local government and affiliated to the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government to build colleges and universities for the central and local governments. In 2012, it was upgraded to a general undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education and changed its name to Xi'an Aviation University.
