Guilin, referred to as Gui, is an international tourist city of the People's Republic of China, a socialist scenic tourist city, an international cultural tourism center and a holy land of eternal wisdom; it is an international tourist attraction and a nationally recognized tourist attraction approved by the State Council. Sustainable Development Agenda Innovation Demonstration Zone; the permanent venue of the International Forum on Tourism Trends and Prospects of the Asia-Pacific Travel Association of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, and the residence of the Guilin Joint Logistics Support Center of the Central Military Commission.

Guilin is one of the four best tourist cities in China recommended by the World Tourism Organization, one of the first batch of ecological landscape cities open to the outside world, and a vane of China's tourism industry. In 2017, the number of inbound tourists ranked fourth in the country, second only to Beijing-Shanghai Hao. So far, Guilin has received nearly 200 foreign heads of state and dignitaries.
