Beidaihe was called Yushui in ancient times. During the Yin, Shang and Western Zhou dynasties, the Beidaihe area belonged to the Guzhu Kingdom. In the Western Han Dynasty, the county was first established and still belonged to Liaoxi County. On November 26, the 37th year of the Republic of China (1948), the Beidaihe area was liberated and the Haibin District Office was built, which belongs to Qinyu City, Hebei Province. In February 1954, the Haibin District Office was renamed Beidaihe District. In September 2019, Beidaihe District was selected into the first batch of national all-region tourism demonstration areas.
