Nantong map area division

As of August 2020, Nantong has three districts: Chongchuan District, Tongzhou District and Haimen District.

Nantong City:

Jiangsu Province is a prefecture-level city located at 31° 41' 06" ~ 32° 42' 44" north latitude and 120° 11' 47" ~ 121 east longitude ° 54' 33". The city borders the Yellow Sea to the east, the Yangtze River to the south, Yancheng to the north, and Taizhou to the west.

As of August 2020, Nantong has three districts: Chongchuan District, Tongzhou District, and Haimen District, one county, Rudong County, and three county-level cities, Qidong City, Rugao City, and Hai'an City.

Organizational evolution:

In August 1983, Chengzhong District and Gangzha District merged to form Nantong City and its suburbs.

In November 1989, Qidong County was abolished and Qidong City was established at the county level.

In February 1991, Rugao County was abolished and Rugao City was established as a county-level city.

In June 1991, Renggang Township, Zhongxiu Township, Bachang Township, and Langshan Township under the jurisdiction of the suburbs were placed under the jurisdiction of the urban area and renamed Chongchuan District. Chenqiao Township, Xingfu Township, and Qinzao Township under the jurisdiction of Nantong County, and Tangzha Town and Tianshengang Town under the original urban area were placed under the jurisdiction of the suburbs, and the suburbs were renamed Gangzha District.

In February 1993, Nantong County was abolished and Tongzhou City, a county-level city, was established.

In June 1994, Haimen County was abolished and county-level Haimen City was established.

In February 2009, Tongzhou City was abolished and Tongzhou District of Nantong City was established.

In May 2018, Hai'an County was abolished and county-level Hai'an City was established.

In July 2020, Chongchuan District and Gangzha District of Nantong City were abolished and a new Chongchuan District of Nantong City was established. County-level Haimen City was abolished and Haimen District of Nantong City was established.
