Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, an autonomous prefecture under the jurisdiction of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is a sub-provincial level organization. It is located in the Ili River Valley in the north of the Tianshan Mountains in the west of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It has a temperate continental climate and an alpine climate. It is the only autonomous prefecture in the country that governs both regions and counties. Yili Prefecture governs 11 county-level administrative districts (directly under the state's jurisdiction).
