What is a transit visa?

Transit visa is a visa that allows the holder to travel to a third country from a port open to the outside world or a port designated by the state within a specified period of time. To obtain a transit visa, you must obtain a valid entry visa or permit from the destination country in advance (except visa-free countries).

Please refer to the websites of relevant countries in embassies and consulates in China for the specific requirements for handling transit visas, and the official ones shall prevail!

United States of America

China passengers who transfer to other countries via the United States, regardless of whether they leave the international transit area of the airport, must apply for transit visas (Class C) in advance with valid destination visas (except for the visa-free destination countries or landing visa), air tickets to travel to travel itinerary and other materials.

Fill in the form according to the visa application process, pay the application fee of $ 160 and make an appointment for an interview.

Note: If you have a tourist visa and travel to a specific country via the United States, the time spent in the specific country will be counted as the time spent in the United States. Pay attention to overstaying.

Japan

According to Japanese regulations, passengers with joint air tickets or ship tickets transfer at Japan International Airport. If they don't need to stay overnight, they don't need to apply for transit visas or other types of entry visas.

If you need to stay overnight, you need an entry/transit visa according to whether the airport is open 24 hours a day.

Note: The only airports open 24 hours a day in Japan are Haneda Airport and Kansai Airport.

South Korea

China tourists who hold visas of specific countries and leave the country within 30 days can stay in South Korea for 30 days without a visa:

① Holding a valid visa from the United States, Japan (except for group signing), Canada, Australia (except for electronic visa) or New Zealand, and going to the visa issuing country via South Korea;

② Direct flights from the United States, Japan, Canada, Australia (except e-visa) or New Zealand to South Korea, and then to China or a third country via South Korea;

(3) Holding a valid visa from any one of the "30 European countries", going to the visa issuing country via Korea or returning from the visa issuing country via Korea (note: returning to China does not include going to a third country).

The "30 European countries" here are Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Romania, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Malta, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland and Spain.

Slovakia, Iceland, Ireland, Estonia, Britain, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Portugal, Poland, France, Finland, Hungary, Slovenia.

Note: China tourists who leave Korea within 72 hours with air tickets, transfer at Incheon International Airport, and participate in the transfer sightseeing project (Incheon Airport has a corresponding window) can enjoy 72 hours visa-free in the Korean Capital Region.

Singapore

China tourists passing through Singapore Changi Airport hold valid visas (valid for at least one month) from the following eight countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Britain, the United States, Germany or Switzerland.

Or long-term passes and air tickets that leave Singapore within 96 hours, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the 96-hour visa-free discount in Singapore, provided that the customs officials approve it.

① Take a flight from a certain country/region to a third country/region, and have a departure ticket within 96 hours after stopping in Singapore;

② Holding valid visas issued by the following countries, the validity period of multiple-entry long-term visas (whether tourist visas, student visas, business visas or residence visas) must be at least 1 month.

The final destination is the visa issuing countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Britain, the United States, Germany (Schengen) and Switzerland.

Malaysia

Generally, there is no need to apply for a transit visa when transferring in Malaysia, and the luggage is directly hung. Just find the next boarding gate in the restricted area at the boarding gate, and you don't need to enter the country. It is convenient to transfer at Malaysia International Airport now.

If it is AirAsia, you need to purchase related services in advance, so that the checked baggage can go straight without entering Malaysia. In addition, the transit time is less than 1 hour, and there is no need to apply for a transit visa. Just stay in the restricted area and visit the duty-free shops.

However, some China passengers who travel from any country to a third country by any airline and stay in Malaysia for less than 120 hours can apply for a free transit visa to visit the country, provided that:

① The entrance and exit must be the same port;

(2) The passport is valid for at least 6 months, and there are printed departure tickets and valid destination visas in the travel itinerary within 120 hours (except for countries that are visa-free/landing visa).

Note: Some China ports do not allow passengers who stay in Malaysia for more than 72 hours (subject to the printed tickets in the travel itinerary) to leave the country for inspection.

Russia

China passengers who travel from a certain country to a third country via Russian and transfer at the same airport are not required to leave the international transit area of the airport for a stay of no more than 24 hours.

Note: Passengers going to Belarus or Kazakhstan via Russia must apply for a transit or entry visa no matter how long they stay.

Australia

China tourists will travel to other countries via Australia, and their stay will not exceed 72 hours. Whether they leave the international transit zone or not, they need to show their printed air tickets, passports and valid visas for their destinations (except visa-free destinations/visas on arrival) in advance.

Apply for a transit visa (category 77 1) from an Australian embassy or consulate. The application process is the same as that of an ordinary tourist visa, but the "transit visa is free".

New Zealand

New Zealand transit visas require applicants to stay at the airport customs for no more than 24 hours.

Canada

The Consulate General of China in Vancouver has verified with the Canadian Border Services Agency and the Immigration Bureau the relevant regulations for China citizens to transit through a third country in Canada. The details are as follows: China citizens who want to go to or leave the United States need to transit Canada, and do not need to apply for a transit visa when all the following conditions are met:

(1) Holding a valid China passport;

(2) Holding a valid US visa;

(3) Take flights of Air Canada, Jazz Canada, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Philippine Airlines and China International Airlines;

(4) Transfer from Vancouver International Airport in Canada or Toronto Pearson International Airport 1 Terminal;

(5) You must start from Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Manila and Taipei in Asia and fly directly to Canada.

Thailand

All visas must be applied in person, which takes two working days and the passport is valid for more than half a year.

Transit visa: visa fee 180 RMB. People who transit from Thailand to a third country or return to China from a third country via Thailand need to apply for this visa.

When applying for a transit visa, the following materials shall be submitted:

Fill in the application form for transit visa in triplicate, which must be signed by myself, three 2-inch color photos within six months, a valid visa to a third country or proof of entry without a border visa;

Show the inbound and outbound air tickets (including the ticket number) confirming the round-trip time. The air ticket must indicate the date of flying to Thailand and a third country or the date of returning home from a third country via Thailand, and submit the air ticket, passport and a copy of the passport.

Special tips

Transit visas must be processed in advance at the Thai Embassy in China, not on the spot in Thailand.

Second entry visa
