Malta Self-guided Tour Travel Guide

Malta is a very mysterious small European country with very beautiful natural landscapes and humanistic feelings. Everything here is mysterious and allows your thoughts to be released. Here I would like to share with you a detailed guide for self-guided tours in Malta.

In China, many people may not know that Malta is a country. Malta is relatively low-key in Europe, which is rich in tourism resources, and its reputation in the country is not too great.

However, as more and more Chinese people travel around the world, Malta also welcomes more and more Chinese tourists. In 2017, the growth rate of Chinese tourists visiting Malta exceeded 60%.

I have always been interested in Malta’s yellow city buildings and blue sea. It happened as soon as we arrived in Malta. Almost all the buildings on the island are yellow, while the sea is as blue as jasper, so blue that the scenery is charming.

There are only 10,000 people in Valletta, the capital of Malta. The area seems to be as big as a campus, but it is beautiful here.

Not just Old Mint Street, all the streets in the business district here are undulating. Many people come here to take pictures just to leave a background like "Inception".

Especially suitable for taking wedding photos or portraits in Malta. The background is cool.

Malta is the back garden of Europeans. There are many tourists here, most of them are Westerners, and there are also more and more tourists from China.

But as an island country in the Mediterranean, Malta seems to be slower than Italy and Greece. I know that many cities in China have adopted the slogan of “slow life”, but compared to Malta, it’s really nothing. The Maltese are not only bad-tempered, but also unreliable.

The most obvious manifestation is that many of the buses mentioned in the guide are unreliable.

We chose a day to go to Gozo. Although the famous blue windows there have collapsed, it is still best to visit Malta. I got up early in the morning and went to the bus station to wait for the bus. It took - 2 hours. After waiting for two hours, the No. 222 bus to the port did not come, and the bus did not stop three times.

There are not more and more tourists waiting for the bus at the station, because many people can't stand it and leave. This is the legendary Maltese bus.

Later a black car came and asked if I could get in for 5 euros. I thought there were two seats left, so I quickly pulled my friend into the car. I wonder what happened to those tourists at the station.

It’s not just that the bus is slow, it’s also shopping and staying in hotels. God, it's so slow. When getting on the bus, the driver picked up every tourist and either swiped their card or bought a ticket. There was a long queue.

Of course, I still recommend Malta. After all, the scenery is so beautiful. But before you go, you have to do your best. Otherwise, this Maltese-style slow life will really drive us fast-paced Chinese crazy.

The view from the Upper Baraka Garden overlooking the three sister cities opposite is stunning.

Highly recommend staying in Valletta. The main scenery here, the business district and the Upper Baraka Gardens, are particularly beautiful and are the main attractions. From the Upper Baraka Gardens, you can take the free elevator down and take a boat trip to the Three Sisters Islands.

Many people choose to stay in St. George's Bay, St. Julian's because of its nightlife. There is a lot of nightlife here, a lot of bars, a lot of young people, and many girls wear very special clothes.

But as a tourist place, this is not a good choice. The No. 222 bus I experienced is here. Also, the InterContinental here particularly annoys me. Not only are the facilities old, but the staff are also inefficient.

As the capital, there are many buses there. Nearby Sliema, Sliema is mainly a commercial street.

I stayed at the Phenicia Hotel in Valletta, which is relatively new and the service is relatively reliable. Right next to Valletta Bus Station, there is a large garden and a swimming pool facing the Blue Harbor, so I recommend this place.

If you don’t have that much budget, try to live near Valletta. Convenient to travel. Anchor Bay, which dominates the world, is good. A Popeye village was built there. Not big, but fun.

Other bays feel like this. Another must-visit place on the main island is the old town of Mdina, one of the filming locations for "Game of Thrones". It is very beautiful and the church is well worth a visit. A 5 euro ticket is required.

Anchor Bay and Popeye Village, the land of fairy tales.

The swimming pool at the Phenicia Hotel overlooks the sea and is very beautiful.

To go to Gozo, Gozo Island, you need to take a boat at Cirkewwa. Several buses came, including the 222 that drove me crazy. It takes less than half an hour by boat.

After getting off the boat, we usually take a car to Victoria Castle. You can go up high and enjoy the beautiful scenery. What impressed me so much was that there was no entrance fee for such a large castle. If we were in China, would we be spared?

Another landmark is the Blue Window, which was also used as a filming location for Game of Thrones. But it collapsed last year, but we still went, and so did many people.

But to be honest, I couldn’t see anything when I went there, only the sea and rocks. No need to go again.

In addition, Gozo is like a small place in China. There is a serious loss of young people and a lack of vitality. It gives people an old feeling and is not as energetic as the dominant one.

It really surprises me that I don’t admit it.

The main means of transportation on the island is buses. It is quite useful to apply for a weekly pass at the airport. If you buy a ticket separately, the line train is valid for 4 hours, not just once, and costs 1.5 euros per person per trip.

It is better to choose self-driving, which will be more convenient. Of course parking can be a bit of a hassle. It was popular for a while. Go to Malta to buy a house and immigrate or something.

I don’t know if it’s a scam, but I think a week in Malta is enough, and I might get bored after a long time. After all, the main colors are basically blue and yellow, so it’s really too slow to buy things or do anything.

But in general, Malta is not expensive and it is still a good deal to go there. Getting to Malta is not difficult. You can transfer to many places in Europe.

In addition, Ryanair, which has been acquired by the Chinese, flies to Malta from many places, and the air tickets are very cheap. Of course, research budget airline baggage policies before you go.

The disappearing blue window.

The blue windows were still there when "Game of Thrones" was filmed.
