Introduction to Mount Mengmen

There is an ancient town of Mengmen in Liulin County, which was the first gate to flood control by Dayu, the second town on the Wanli Yellow River, and the birthplace of the Chinese Lin family. Mennanshan Temple is located in Zhuangwang Mountain in the south of Mengmen Town, as well as the relics of Dayu's flood control, Fengjiagou Ancient Village, and the Liujia Geda Eco-tourism Resort spearheaded by national model worker Chen Buliang.

Five kilometers downstream from the Hukou Waterfall in the Mengmen Mountain Scenic Area, below the "Ten Mile Dragon Cave", in the river bed at the bottom of the Yellow River Valley, there are two fusiform boulders, standing majestically in the huge stream, forming two An island in the middle of the river. This is Mengmen Mountain, which was known as the "Tread of Nine Rivers" in ancient times. According to legend, these two islands were originally a mountain that blocked the river, causing floods to overflow. When Dayu was controlling the floods, he split the mountain into two to guide the water flow. These two islands look like a boat from a distance, a mountain from a close look, and a door from the top down. It is also said that in ancient times, the descendants of the Meng brothers were washed away by the river and were rescued here, so these two islands are called Mengmen Mountain.

Damengmen Island is about 300 meters long, 50 meters wide, and about 10 meters above the water. On the stone cliff to the south, there are four characters "Luzhen Kuangliu" inscribed by Xu Huanying, the governor of Jinming County in the early years of Qing Dynasty and Yongzheng Dynasty. The plaque is 2.5 meters long and 1 meter wide, which is a true portrayal of the wonderful scenery here. Xiaomengmen Island is more than 10 meters upstream of Damenmen Island. Only 50 to 60 meters long, these two river islands are entirely composed of massive gray-green sandstone produced in a horizontal shape. The rock is hard and has strong weather resistance. According to "Geographical Knowledge", Mengmen was originally a crack on the bed of the Yellow River. Hukou Waterfall appeared here at that time. Due to the long-term rise of the earth's crust, the downcutting effect of rivers has increased, the source has been eroded, and the crack point has moved upward. The waterfall has moved from Mengmen to its current position, and the deep pool under the waterfall has developed into today's "Ten-mile Long Cao", and Mengmen Mountain is the waterfall The remaining rock blocks moved up the deep pool.
