Terrain:

The topography of Jiangxi province is dominated by hills and mountains in the south of the Yangtze River. Basins and valleys are widely distributed, with a slight Poyang Lake plain. Geographically, bounded by Jinjiang-Xinjiang line, the northern part belongs to Jiangnan Uplift of Yangtze paraplatform and the southern part belongs to South China Fold System, which was merged by Late Caledonian Movement at the end of Silurian, and was transformed many times by Indosinian Movement, Yanshan Movement and Himalayan Movement.

A series of northeast-southwest structural belts have been formed, and a large number of granites have invaded the southern region. Red clastic rocks from Cretaceous to Paleogene were deposited in the basin, and gypsum and rock salt were deposited. A faulted basin centered on Poyang Lake has been formed in the northern region, and Quaternary laterite has accumulated in the piedmont area at the edge of the basin. This is the geological basis that causes the topography of the whole province to tilt to the north.
