There are 18 gates around the city wall of Xi 'an, and there are entrances and exits of the city wall near many gates.

But I suggest you climb the building from Yongning Gate (South Gate) or Zhongshan Gate (Yongxingfang). The reason is that Yongning Gate (South Gate) is close to the bell tower, and you can rent a bicycle next to it. Zhongshan Gate is next to Yongxingfang, and you can go directly to the wall if you want to ride a bike. If you want to ride a bike, you need to walk about 5 meters south on the wall and walk to Changle Gate (East Gate).

It takes 13.74 kilometers to walk around the city wall, and it takes three hours without rest. Therefore, I strongly recommend renting bicycles in advance as the first thing on the city wall. There are six bicycle rental places, which are located on the second floor of Yongning Gate (South Gate), Wenchang Men Site, Andingmen (West Gate), Changle Gate (East Gate) and Anyuanmen (North Gate).

Note:

You can only return the bus near Yongning Gate after 8: pm and before 1: pm. It takes three hours for a single person to take 45 yuan and a double person to take 9 yuan. If you are physically weak, you can also take a battery car instead of walking, which is a little more expensive and take a trip to 12 yuan.
