Guangxi was once an inland province, why did it become a coastal province again?

I received an old map, the "Provincial Map of China" printed around the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China. When I turned to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangdong Province, I discovered that what everyone now knows are coastal provinces. Guangxi was actually an inland province at that time. Not along the coast.

The provincial boundaries between Guangdong and Guangxi shown on the old map were originally the three cities of Fangchenggang, Qinzhou and Beihai in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region near the Beibu Gulf. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the outlines of the current provincial boundaries of my country were determined. Behind the line, it was under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. At that time, it was called Lianzhou Prefecture.

When Lianzhou Prefecture was established in the early Ming Dynasty, it governed one state and two counties, namely Qinzhou and Lingshan County, and Hepu County, which was governed in the same city as Lianzhou Prefecture. In the Qing Dynasty, it began to continue the Ming Dynasty The system continued to govern this state and two counties, but in December of the 14th year of Guangxu's reign, Qinzhou, which was originally a scattered state, was promoted to Zhili state, directly under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. At this time, Lianzhou only governed 2 counties.

The Lianzhou Prefecture of Guangxi in the Ming Dynasty was abolished in the early years of the Republic of China when the government was removed and a road was built. But in the subsequent years, although the divisions changed frequently due to the impact of the war situation, this area has always belonged to Guangdong Province.

After the founding of New China, in September 1950, this was the Qinlian District of Guangdong Province. It is estimated that these maps reflect the administrative divisions at this stage.

After some changes, such as being transferred to Guangxi and then back to Guangdong, in July 1965, with the approval of the State Council, the Qinzhou Prefecture Office of the Guangxi Tong Autonomous Region was established, exclusively stationed in Qinzhou Town, and under the jurisdiction of Guangdong The province was assigned to Hepu in Guangxi.

Lingshan and Qinzhou Tong Autonomous County, Dongxing Autonomous County, Beihai City and Shangsi County in Nanning Prefecture. The dust of belonging to Guangxi has since settled, and Guangxi has also changed from an inland province to a coastal province.
