Scenery Photography Guide to Xiapu, Fujian (High Definition and Multiple Pictures)

Tidal flats usually refer to shallow water beaches.

There are few beaches like the beach in Xiapu, Ningde, Fujian, China. Most of the beaches have rocks, and Xiapu has the largest tidal flat in the country. Together with the fishermen drying kelp, it forms a special scenic and cultural landscape.

Xiapu Tidal Flat can be photographed all year round, with different flavors and different content.

The weather in spring is unstable, the air is not transparent, and it is particularly hazy. You can take pictures of ink paintings, seaweed demolition, fishing for crab seedlings at sea, and fishing villages on the sea.

After a summer thunderstorm or before and after a typhoon, the air is particularly clear. In the morning and evening before the typhoon comes, you can take photos of golden waves that are several meters or even ten meters high, and the thunderous waves crashing on the shore. You can take pictures of Xiaohao Beach, drying kelp in Shajiang River, sunset beach in Gangwei, Sansha Town, sunrise and oyster farming on Yanli Island in Xinan Town, etc.

Summer is the easiest time to take photos of scenery, but it is also the season with a higher risk of rain, so it depends on your luck.

In autumn, the sky is clear and the weather is stable. Xiapu is the hometown of seaweed in China. During this period, thousands of acres of seaweed breeding farms are built along the coast. Seedlings are planted and seedlings are planted. The sea is shuttled by ships. The beach is full of people and boats. In autumn, you can take pictures of Songgang Beiqi, Sansha Xiaohao, Sansha Gangwei Beach Shaiwang, Sansha Ancient Town Seaweed Farm, and Dayushan Island.

In winter, the sun is warm and the light is soft. It is a good time to take pictures of sunrise and sunset at sea. You can take pictures of sunrise at Huazhu in Sansha Town and Caomao Mountain in Xinan Town. There are seaweed harvesting along the coast, the folk landscape of Lianjia Boats in the salt fields, and the ancient banyan trees in the red maple forest of Yangjiaxi in Yacheng Town, etc.

The key point is that it is best to go around the first or fifteenth day of the lunar calendar. At this time, the tide changes greatly due to the influence of the moon.

This is why you need to do your homework in advance when going to Kasumigaura.

The itinerary was flexibly adjusted by director Xiao Yang based on the shooting date and local tides and weather conditions. Next time you go, it may not be this kind of itinerary. For beach photography, the shooting time must be determined according to the tide conditions. This time it is during the Dragon Boat Festival in May.

1. A stable tripod. More than 90% of Xiapu trips require the use of a telephoto lens, and the biggest threat to the telephoto lens comes from the slight vibration of the tripod.

2. A telephoto lens with a focal length of more than 200mm. If financial resources allow, it is best to have a focal length of more than 400mm. A wide-angle lens of 24-70mm is enough to cope with most scenes (Yang Jiaxi photographing old farmers and cows under the banyan tree).

3. You don’t need to bring a polarizer, there is almost no chance of using it.

4. You don’t need to bring macro and fisheye lenses, there is no need to use them.

5. When shooting sunrise and sunset, you can bring a filter system and add a soft gradient filter (0.9 or 0.6). You don’t need to bring a light-reducing filter. The characteristic of Kasumigaura is the tidal flats. There are almost no rocks for slow-motion photography. In Kasumigaura, wide-angle sunrises and sunsets are not considered outstanding.

6. Remember to bring sun protection equipment, such as sunscreen, sun hat, scarf, sunglasses, etc.

7. Remember to bring a headlamp. When you go out to take pictures of the sunrise in the middle of the night, you can see the road, assist in focusing, and illuminate the foreground.

8. Entertainment facilities, such as small Bluetooth speakers that can be carried with you. When the weather is bad, or when you are waiting for a seat on the plane, playing some music will make you feel very different.

1. Xiapu County has a train station, which can be reached by EMU or high-speed rail.

2. The scenic spots in Xiapu County are scattered, so it is more convenient to rent a car or drive yourself. It is recommended to find a photography guide.

3. Xiapu County is a popular area, so it is better to book train tickets half a month to a month in advance.

1. Make sure you really want to go to Xiapu for photography, not to see the scenery. If you are looking at the scenery, you are destined to be disappointed. Those beautiful photos are almost all taken with a telephoto lens to select a very small area. The difference from what we see with the naked eye is really huge. And one thing that is very important when looking at the scenery is that you have to get up early and come back late to see the sunrise and sunset.

2. Check the weather before going. The weather is extremely important in the whole process. If the weather is not good in Kasumigaura, it is really hard to cry. If you want to rank the weather from good to bad, I would rank it like this: sunny > cloudy > showers > cloudy > heavy rain. For the last two types of weather, it is better to just sleep in a hotel.

3. If the weather is bad, try to eat more seafood. Xiapu is close to the sea and can heal the wounds of the soul with the delicious seafood.

4. Prepare some food in advance, so that you won’t be hungry in the morning. After all, you go out at three o’clock in the morning and finish shooting at eight o’clock, which is very energy-consuming.

5. During the peak season in Xiapu, or on holidays, please get up early, such as 2:30, and arrive at the shooting location early to get a seat.

6. Ask a local photographer to be your guide, and the guide will provide one-stop service for Xiapu scenery photography creation.

For outsiders, the most important thing about Xiaigaura photography is the tidal pattern. If you don’t want to bother studying the tides and itinerary, just hire a guide.

7. Before going to Xiapu, pray for good weather.

Finally, remember to take sun protection and anti-mosquito measures.
