Yangzhou daming temple is an ancient temple with a history of 1000 years. The ancient pagoda here was built in the Sui Dynasty, with profound historical and cultural connotations and rich allusions. This is a scenic spot worth visiting. In recent years, it has attracted a large number of tourists. It is said that praying here is also very effective.

When it comes to Yangzhou tourism, many people immediately think of Slender West Lake, Geyuan and Heyuan. In addition, daming temple near Slender West Lake is also famous.

Introduction of Yangzhou daming temple

Daming temple is the first ancient temple in Yangzhou, ranking the top five in the list of ancient temples in Jiangsu. It was built the year after Emperor Xiaowu of the Southern Dynasties, with a history of 1500 years. It is one of the oldest existing temples in China.

I have traveled to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and other cities before, and found that the local ancient temples are very similar to daming temple in Yangzhou. After understanding, I found this is a normal phenomenon, because the artistic basis of ancient Japanese architecture originated from ancient China.

In 60 1 year, Emperor Wendi of Sui ordered the construction of 30 pagodas all over the country. Yangzhou, as an important city in the Sui Dynasty, is naturally planned. At that time, the nine-story pagoda built in daming temple was named Qiling Pagoda, and the name of the temple was naturally changed to Qiling Temple.

Daming temple's real fame began in the Tang Dynasty, and Master Jian Zhen, who had traveled to Japan, became the abbot here, which promoted the exchange and development of Buddhist culture between China and Japan. Since then, due to the war and other reasons, daming temple has been destroyed and built repeatedly.

By the prosperous time of Kanggan in Qing Dynasty, this ancient temple with a thousand years had become the first of Yangzhou's famous temples. Although the name of the temple "Daming" had nothing to do with the Ming Dynasty, there were often voices of anti-Qing and regaining sight among the people at that time. The Qing emperor taboo, once abandoned the name of "daming temple", reuse the name of "Qiling Temple". Later, Ganlong personally wrote "Fajing Temple", which took a long time.

In 2002, the ancient temple finally restored the ancient name of "daming temple".

Although daming temple is close to the Slender West Lake, the first scenic spot in Yangzhou, and not far from the urban area, it has not reached the level of a sea of people. It may not be the tourist season when I went, and the yard was quiet and dusty.

Yangzhou daming temple is composed of Archway, Tianwang Hall, Pingshan Hall and Xiyuan. It is the earliest model of existing temple gardens in China and the mother of Japanese temple gardens. This type of temple is very common in Kansai, Japan, and the stupa of Xita Temple in Osaka is very similar to the Qiling Pagoda.

Due to frequent wars in the Central Plains and Jiangnan, this kind of temple garden is rare in China, but it is well preserved in Japan.

White walls and tiles, pavilions, bamboos, pines and cypresses, winding paths and deep courtyards are unique poetic images in Jiangnan. Daming temple, located in the "hometown of fireworks" in the Tang Dynasty, blended poetry and painting of Jiangnan gardens into temple buildings in the atmosphere, which is very in line with the artistic conception of Buddhism's entry into the WTO and birth.

Xiyuan is a classical garden in daming temple of Shan Ye Forest. Some architectural details are similar to gardens and gardens. There are few tourists here, and it is a good place for self-cultivation and study. You can walk in the garden, enjoy the cool breeze in Xu Lai, and occasionally hear the singing of kingfishers.
