Village Overview

Tanxi Village is located in the northeast of Nan'an City, at the foot of the beautiful Daqi Mountain, to the east of the basin on the west bank of Luxi, and to the east of Tanbian Village in Lefeng Town , Houyang Village, and the south is connected with Xiashan Village in Luodong Town, five kilometers away from the seat of the town government. Tanxi Bridge and Nanxi Bridge span Luoxi, and settlements are scattered in the hilly and valley areas on the northwest bank of Luoxi.

The village area is 2 square kilometers, with 1,350 acres of cultivated land and 8,370 acres of mountainous land. The main crops are rice, wheat and sweet potato. The forest coverage rate is 90%, there is constant spring all year round, the air is fresh, and every household in the village uses mountain spring tap water. Tanxi Village Committee has an earth building. It is divided into three natural villages, with 26 villager groups and 1,160 households with 4,880 villagers.

Tanxi Village is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese with fertile soil and numerous buildings. The three natural villages are all paved with cement roads. The street lights are bright at night and the scenery is charming. In 2006, it was awarded the title of Wealthy Civilized Village by the Quanzhou Municipal Government.

More than 95% of the people in the village have the surname Huang, and their ancestors are Putou Liang'an Gong, a descendant of Huang Shougong, the founder of Ziyun Quanzhou. It has a history of reproduction for more than 600 years. Several generations of people have reproduced and moved to various places at home and abroad, while still retaining the local accent and feelings of their hometown. Overseas Chinese have made outstanding contributions to public welfare undertakings such as building elementary school buildings in their hometowns, building bridges, and laying cement roads. Tanxi Village is the hometown of the international puppet master Huang Yique, known as the treasure of Quanzhou. Master Huang Yique has superb skills and is an outstanding figure in the modern domestic art world.

Tanxi has a number of buildings embodying powerful ancient culture. Most of its residential houses are palace-style buildings, accompanied by many newly built small villas, which complement each other and are spectacular. Palace and temple buildings such as Guangfeng Temple, Shanmei Palace, Zushi Palace, and Nanpu Pavilion, as well as folk culture such as Nanyin, Daguchuang, Lantern Festival, and temple fairs, blend into the old and new symphony of the village, playing the spirit of Tanxi's vibrant life.
