Yancheng Red-crowned Crane Wetland Eco-tourism Zone is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Yancheng National Rare Birds Nature Reserve in Jiangsu Province, also known as Yancheng Biosphere Reserve (Yancheng Reserve for short), is located 40 kilometers east of Yancheng City, and the nearest town to Xiangshui, Binhai, Sheyang, Dafeng and Dongtai counties (cities) is Yandong Town, Sheyang County. The main types of protection in this area are inland wetlands and aquatic ecosystems, and the main protection objects are precious waterfowl such as wetlands and red-crowned cranes.

Yancheng Biosphere Reserve has 262 (226) species (more than 300 species) belonging to 54 families of birds 19, which is an important wintering place for many rare birds in China, such as crane family, ostrich family, egret family, goose family, duck family, stork family and gull family. The wetland in this area is the habitat of the largest wintering population of endangered animal red-crowned crane in China and even in the world. This area is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River, which is a broad transitional zone between the two world animals, and also a transitional zone between warm temperate zone and subtropical zone. Therefore, the fauna including birds has the characteristics of transition from north to south. There are many kinds of birds with high economic value, such as storks and mallard ducks.

Nature reserve is also one of the rare areas of highly endangered species in China. By 2008, IUCN had discovered 29 endangered species.
