Introduction to grassland

Grassland is a type of ecosystem on the earth, divided into tropical grasslands, temperate grasslands and other types. It is the most widely distributed vegetation type on the earth. Grasslands are formed because the soil layer is thin or the rainfall is low, and herbaceous plants are less affected, making it impossible for plants to grow widely.

China is one of the countries with the richest grassland resources in the world. The total grassland area is nearly 400 million hectares, accounting for 40% of the country’s total land area and three times the existing cultivated land area.

Cause

Mainly because the soil layer is thin or the precipitation is low, herbaceous plants are less affected, while woody plants cannot grow widely.

Regions

China’s grasslands can generally be divided into five major regions: Northeast Grassland Area, Mengninggan Grassland Area, Xinjiang Grassland Area, Qinghai-Tibet Grassland Area, and Southern Grass Mountain Grassland Area.

The northeastern grassland area includes the western part of Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces and the northeastern part of Inner Mongolia, accounting for about 2% of the total grassland area in the country.

Southern Grassy Mountains and Grassy Slopes: There are large areas of grassy mountains and grassy slopes in southern China as well as a large number of sporadic grasslands, which are collectively referred to as the Southern Grassy Mountains and Grassy Slopes. There are many types of pasture, and livestock such as cattle and sheep can be grazed.
