What is the growth difference between tomatoes and watermelons?
1. temperature
Tomatoes are thermophilic vegetables. Under normal circumstances, the optimum temperature for assimilation is 20-25℃, and the optimum soil temperature for root growth is 20-22℃. Increasing soil temperature can not only promote root development, but also significantly increase the content of nitrate nitrogen in soil, accelerate growth and increase yield. The suitable temperature for watermelon growth is 18-32℃, and it can withstand high temperature. It can still maintain a certain assimilation efficiency up to 40℃, but it is not resistant to low temperature.
lamplight
Tomato is a short-day plant. Short sunshine is needed in the process from vegetative growth to reproductive growth, but the requirements are not strict. Some varieties can germinate and blossom in advance under short sunshine, and most varieties will blossom under 1 1- 13 hours of sunshine. Earlier, plants grew vigorously. Watermelon likes light and is a short-day crop. It is more sensitive to light. It develops well under high temperature and sufficient light. Specifically, the vines are short and thick, the leaves are thick, the fruits are large and the sugar content is high. Generally, the daily sunshine hours are required to be 10- 12 hours, but the high temperature weather with more sunshine is an important factor to ensure high yield and high quality of watermelon. Insufficient light during flowering and fruiting period, low fruit setting rate, slow fruit development, poor quality and low yield.
Step 3: Moisture
Tomatoes need more water, but they don't need to be watered often. Generally, the soil humidity is 60-80% and the air humidity is 45-50%. High humidity in the air not only hinders normal pollination, but also causes serious diseases under high temperature and high humidity conditions. Watermelon needs a lot of nutrients during its growth, but the water absorption at different growth stages is obviously different. Watermelon must provide enough water at seedling stage, vine extension stage and fruit expansion stage to ensure the growth of melons and fruits. It should be noted that watering should not be too much, so as not to cause rotten roots, dead seedlings and rotten melons.
4. Land
Tomato does not require high soil conditions, but in order to obtain high yield and promote root development, fertile loam with deep soil layer, good drainage and rich organic matter should be selected. The pH value of soil should be 6 ~ 7, and the soil with acid or alkali exceeding the standard should be improved. Watermelon can be planted in different soils, but its roots are aerobic and its oxygen demand is high. Usually sandy loam with deep and fertile soil layer, good drainage and rich organic matter is suitable. Because the sandy soil has good air permeability, it absorbs heat quickly during the day and dissipates heat quickly at night, which can avoid the situation of rotten roots, rotten vines and rotten melons caused by water accumulation in the field during planting. Conducive to the accumulation of sugar in fruit.
