In fact, the hottest place is not at the equator. Look at the world meteorological record. In some big deserts far from the equator in Asia, Africa, Australia, South America and North America, the temperature during the day is much hotter than that at the equator! The highest equatorial temperature is 55℃! In the Gobi Desert of China, the highest temperature during the day is 45℃. The equatorial region gets the most light and heat from the sun, but it is not the hottest place. Some deserts are far from the equator. Why is summer hotter than the equator? It turns out that most of the equatorial region is occupied by the ocean. The vast equatorial ocean surface can transfer the heat of the sun to the depths of the ocean. Seawater has a large heat capacity, the water temperature rises more slowly than that on land, and evaporation of seawater consumes a lot of heat. Therefore, the temperature in the equatorial region will not rise sharply. In the desert, things are different. There are few plants and water is hard to see. Bare sand has a small heat capacity, so the temperature rises quickly, the heat transfer in sand is slow, and it is difficult to conduct heat downward. In addition, water lacks evaporation and dissipation. Therefore, under the irradiation of the sun, the temperature in the desert rises very quickly and becomes the hottest place on earth.
