Meishan sees plum to quench thirst.

Five miles southeast of Anhui Hanshan Furniture City, there is a mountain, which is the place where the idiom "Xun Mei quenches thirst" occurs-Meishan.

During the Three Kingdoms period, after Cao Cao unified the north, he mobilized 65,438+10,000 troops to attack Wu. The army set out from Xudu (Xuchang), passed through Jieshou, Hefei and Zhaoguan, and arrived at Meishan. It was hot and the soldiers were thirsty. Seeing that the army was in a slump, Cao Cao immediately unfolded a military map, and then pointed to the field with a whip and said, "There is a big Meilin in front. Forgive me, it is sweet and sour, which can quench your thirst." Hearing this, the foot soldiers all came out of the water and their morale was high. The story of looking at plum to quench thirst has been handed down since then.

Whether Meishan had childhood friends at that time is unknown today, and scholars in previous dynasties also have doubts. In the Song Dynasty, Wang Anshi's poem "The general immediately made a plan, looking at the green hills and pointing to plum trees" obviously did not believe that there were green plums on the mountains.

Dai Zong, a poet in the Ming Dynasty, put it more directly: "A thousand miles of Wujiang River is deep in spring, and Xu Jun drinks the horse river. The empty mountain flower tree is barren and is pointed out by Cao Zang. " It means that soldiers at that time, including descendants, were deceived by Cao Cao.

Whether the deception is true or not, Cao Cao's use of troops at the end of the story is really commendable. As the modern poet Ai Feng praised in his poem "The Beauty of Chaohu Lake": "Chaohu Lake is beautiful, and there are rumors in Wei Wu that it has been more enlightening for thousands of years since it stopped drinking in March."

Guipo at the northern foot of Meishan is the place where Cao Cao pointed his whip at Meilin and the soldiers looked at Mei to quench their thirst. About 200 steps to the west, there is a Mingyu Cave, which is deep and steep, just like a stone curtain hanging here, so it is also called the Stone Curtain Cave. There is the sound of spring water flowing in the cave all year round, singing together like birds.

To the east of the site is Meishan Temple, facing south, opposite the peak of Meishan. There is a couplet on the door of buddhist nun:

"The gate of Meishan Dragon and Tiger Land; The water drops around the hole make fairy bubbles. "

Later generations built a thirst-quenching pavilion on the site in order to spread the story of looking at plum to quench thirst. When it was rebuilt in the 18th year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty (18 13), it was also made by Hu Yongcheng, the governor of Hezhou, and it no longer exists. However, the Chinese character 10, which is engraved on the stone wall of Wuguipo, Meishan, "Cao Cao traveled here as a teacher, looking at the plum to quench his thirst", is still legible despite the wind and rain erosion.
