The flat stratocumulus near the earth's surface is stratocumulus, usually gray. When the stratus becomes thicker, that is, nimbostratus and Mao Mao, it will rain, storm or snow. Clouds that look like cotton piles above clouds are called cumulus clouds. Cumulus clouds develop into cumulonimbus clouds and form thunderstorms. Slender plume clouds are cirrus clouds, which are composed of tiny ice crystals.
