What's the difference between overhead ground wire and lightning conductor?
1. Different functions: Overhead ground wire is used to protect transmission lines in power system from lightning strike. By connecting the conductor with the earth, a low impedance path is provided, which is convenient for releasing the high energy generated by lightning into the earth. The function of lightning rod is to guide and safely disperse or transmit the overload or influence caused by weather conditions (such as lightning) and reduce the negative impact on buildings, equipment and personnel.
2. Different locations: the overhead ground wire is located at the top of the high-voltage transmission tower and densely arranged in the whole power transmission and distribution network system. Lightning arrester/lightning rod (damping cone) is installed on the roof, chimney and steeple of the building.
