What is the rainfall per hour? How to calculate it specifically?

Hourly rainfall refers to the depth of rain falling to the ground per unit time, usually expressed in millimeters.

The method of calculating hourly rainfall is to use the following formula according to rainfall measurement:

Rainfall = (rainfall depth in average rainfall time) × (rainfall area)

Among them, the average rainfall time can be 1 hour, 2 hours, 6 hours, 24 hours, etc. , as needed. Rainfall depth refers to the water depth measured by the rainfall meter, while rainfall area refers to the opening area of the rainfall meter.

For example, if the rainfall depth is 10 mm and the rainfall area is 3.14x10x10cm2, the hourly rainfall is:

10mm x (3.14x10x10cm2) ÷ (60min x 3.14x100cm2) = 0.5mm/m2.

That is, the hourly rainfall is 0.5 mm/m2.

It should be noted that rainfall is a relative value, which is influenced by many factors such as the opening area of rainfall measuring instruments, rainfall time, weather factors and so on. Therefore, when measuring and comparing rainfall, it is necessary to use the same standard measuring instruments and compare the measurement results. At the same time, rainfall in different regions and under different meteorological conditions also needs to be revised and adjusted.
