History of Pearl River Delta
The Pearl River Delta, formerly known as the Yuejiang Plain, is the general name of the big delta formed by the confluence of Xijiang River and Beijiang River and the small delta formed by the confluence of Dongjiang River. The Pearl River Delta is located in the lower reaches of the Pearl River in Guangdong Province, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, facing Southeast Asia across the sea, with convenient land and water transportation, and is known as the "South Gate" of China.
The vicissitudes of the Pearl River Delta in modern times have been recorded in detail in ancient books in China, with profound insights, such as "Lingnan used to be a sea ear, gradually becoming an island, gradually becoming a township well, and the people were prosperous." This not only points out that the Pearl River Delta was once a sea, but also summarizes the basic process of its formation and development.
In the pre-Qin period, the Pearl River Delta was an ocean. Today, the central part of the Pearl River Delta and parts of Guangzhou are still at the mouth of the river submerged by seawater. At that time, Guangdong was inhabited by ethnic tribes called "Nanyue", which were mainly distributed in western and eastern Guangdong, that is, the ancestors of Zhuang and She nationalities in Guangdong today.
During Qin Shihuang's unification of Lingnan, A Qin established a shipbuilding base in Panyu and built a large number of ships. Later, Panyu City was built on the basis of shipbuilding base, which was the beginning of Guangzhou.
After Qin unified Lingnan, Guangdong was vast and sparsely populated, and hundreds of thousands of immigrants moved from the Central Plains in Qin Dynasty. By AD 2, the population of Guangdong was 375,200. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, Panyu City has become an important foreign trade port in southern China, but the focus of Guangdong's economic and population distribution is still in the northern part of Guangdong and the Xijiang River basin.
This population distribution is related to two routes of Central Plains immigrants moving south to Guangdong: one is from Gui Xiang Corridor to Xijiang River, settled in Gaoyao and Luoding, and some of them went south to Leizhou Peninsula; Second, after passing through the pass of Zheling Mountain, it went down the Lianjiang River and reached Lianxian and Yangshan in northern Guangdong, forming that the population distribution in Guangdong in the Han Dynasty was the largest in the mountainous area of northern Guangdong, followed by the Xijiang River basin, while the Pearl River Delta region was still a sea.
During the Tang and Song Dynasties, after a long period of sediment accumulation in the Pearl River Delta, the beaches gradually emerged and the river network began to take shape. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, there were frequent wars in the Central Plains. In order to avoid wars and natural disasters, many clans came to Nanxiong Zhuji Lane to live for several years or decades through Nan 'an, Jiangxi. After they gradually adapted to the climate and living habits in Lingnan area, they gradually moved south to the Pearl River Delta. The Pearl River Delta, with its vast wasteland and growing marshland, has become the destination of agricultural immigrants in Nanxiong Zhuji Lane.
After the reunification of the Song Dynasty, the Pearl River Delta built dikes to fill the sea, which greatly increased the grain and promoted the population growth. At the end of the Northern Song Dynasty, a large number of northern Han people fled to the south to avoid chaos, especially in the Southern Song Dynasty. Guangdong has accepted a large number of northern immigrants. According to the records of Yuanfeng Jiuyu in the Northern Song Dynasty, immigrants from the north accounted for 39% of the total number of households in Guangdong at that time, and the Pearl River Delta has grown into another densely populated area. The coastal population increased rapidly in Yuan Dynasty, and the Pearl River Delta replaced northern Guangdong as the population distribution center of Guangdong.
At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, the imperial court actively developed the Pearl River Delta, and Zhu Yuanzhang carried out the policy of stationing troops and fields, planting widely and harvesting sparingly throughout the country. A large number of gentry immigrants moved to Guangdong to reclaim land, and the Pearl River Delta entered a stage of large-scale development, gradually becoming the economic, cultural and political center of Guangdong, with the population of guangzhou fu ranking first in the province.
The main task of the garrison in Guangdong Health Center is to guard the coastline of Guangdong, and at the same time live in scattered places where she, Yao and other ethnic minorities live together. The barracks of the health center are: Youshitun, Guanyong and Shayong Tun in Zuo Wei, Guangzhou; Guangzhou has Tan Yitun, Zhou Yitun and Funingtun; Guangzhou avant-garde has Ma Yong Tun, Tai Po Tun and Dadong Xiangtun; Guangzhou defenders have Tai Lan Yi Tun, Xiao Lan Er Tun and Xiao Lan San Tun.
Zuo Wei, Youwei, Qianwei, Weifang, Nanhai and Guang Hai have an area of 2,240 mu each. During the Hongwu period, Jiangmen in Xinhui and Xiaolan, Dalan and Guzhen in Xiangshan all kept sand. In the early Ming Dynasty, the total area of Guangdong Health Center was more than 700,000 mu.
In the Qing Dynasty, Guangzhou 13th Line became the only legal foreign trade special zone of the Qing Empire, and the Pearl River Delta also became the world trade center of the East in the 18 and 19 centuries. Until the Opium War, this foreign goods firm monopolized China's foreign trade for 85 years. Through thirteen trips, China exported silk and porcelain to Britain, France, Spain and other European countries, maintaining a trade surplus position of 100 years. As a result, the global silver continuously flows into China, and the 13th line is also called "Jinshan Zhuhai, Tianzi Nanku".
The basic territory of guangzhou fu has been stable for more than 700 years since the Yuan Dynasty. Domestic residents have been in the same intermediate administrative division for a long time, and the folk customs have merged, forming a Guangfu folk customs system with the same regional and cultural characteristics.
