Hunan belongs to the south. The north and south of China were bounded by Huaihe River in Qin Dynasty.

Hunan province is located in the south of the Yangtze River and belongs to the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Most provinces are in the south of Dongting Lake, so they are called Hunan, so they belong to the south. Xiangjiang River runs through the north and south of the province, so it is also called Xiaoxiang for short, and its capital is in Changsha.
