Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province, a China Special Economic Zone, a national civilized city and a national ecological garden city.

Zhuhai, a municipality under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, is located in the southwest of the Pearl River Estuary in Guangdong Province, facing Hong Kong across the sea in the east, Macao in the south, Xinhui District and Taishan City in Jiangmen City in the west and Zhongshan City in the north. It has 8 national first-class ports, including Gongbei, Jiuzhou, Zhuhai Port, Wanshan, Hengqin, Doumen, Wanchai and Zhuhai-Macao Cross-border Industrial Zone. It is the region with the largest sea area, the largest number of islands and the longest coastline in the Pearl River Delta.

Zhuhai 1980 became a special economic zone, which is one of the first four special economic zones in China to implement the policy of opening to the outside world. In 2008, the State Council promulgated and implemented the Planning Outline for the Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta Region, and made it clear that Zhuhai is the core city on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary, with counties set up in 1953, cities set up in 1979 and special economic zones set up in 1980, enjoying the whole country.
