How to participate in Bailin Temple meditation?
Master Chuan Xue is giving us evening classes.
Dragging luggage from Hong Kong to Shenzhen Airport early in the morning, flying to Shijiazhuang and then taking a bus to Zhaoxian. After a day's rush, at five o'clock in the afternoon in the dense twilight, I arrived at Berlin Zen Temple, a thousand-year-old temple.
The cost of the temple is very low, including room and board, as long as 20 yuan per day. When you leave, you also give everyone a Bao Shu. The purpose of Zen temple is not to make money, but to promote Buddhism, but everyone feels guilty and feels much more peaceful after giving.
The Chaxiang Building where we live is a two-story building, and we have to climb up and down this staircase every day.
Students who came to meditate were assigned to tea 3, 4, 5 and so on. My room is teahouse 5. There are two rooms inside and outside, 7 people live, and the bathroom with shower room is used. This is the best condition in the temple, and the students in Yunshui Building have to use public toilets.
But there are many people, the time is tight, the shower water is not smooth, the heating is not enough in the cold, and the conditions are still quite difficult.
At first glance, the most chaotic thing is my shop. I'm ashamed that I haven't folded a quilt in these three days.
Go to eat when you are settled, and eat at six o'clock every night on time.
Almost all the monks in the temple, as well as all the laity, dine in this unique canteen. Dining has a special term: brunch is called "crossing the hall" and dinner is called "medicine stone"
When you enter the restaurant, your mobile phones should be turned off and you can't talk to each other. You need to remain absolutely silent. Diners each take out two bowls, a pair of chopsticks and a paper towel at a time. The bowl on the left contains thin food, such as porridge. The bowl on the right holds dry food, such as steamed bread, rice and vegetables.
When distributing food, the host will come quickly with a bucket or basin. At this time, you must aim clearly and then decide quickly whether to eat or not. If you decide to eat, the bowl will be stopped in front of the table, and if you don't eat, you will drag the bowl very close to yourself. Otherwise, you don't add anything when you pass by, or you force yourself to swallow it if you don't want to eat it.
Because the food is donated by ten donors, you must not waste it. You must finish it. If you can't finish eating, the host will order you to eat clean. As for the standard of eating, there is not a grain of rice left. After dinner, monks or lay people who distribute food will come with open water bottles, pour water into everyone's bowls and help you carry the food in the bowls to your stomach completely. This boiled water is not for you to bring your own cup to receive water, but for you to rinse the bowl and drink.
When we first arrived, we didn't know the situation. Some girls almost cried because they couldn't finish eating. There is also a touching scene. A girl told her old mother who washed dishes that she couldn't finish it. At that time, the old mother picked up the half-eaten bowl and helped her eat.
The dining room is separated by the five-view hall in the middle: in the middle, a big monk usually leads everyone to recite scriptures before meals and talk about Zen after meals. On both sides, monks sit at the front table, followed by lay people, and male and female lay people sit on both sides respectively.
After dinner, I went to the evening self-study. Master Chuan Xi briefly introduced the rules and other matters needing attention in the temple.
There are slogans of the old monk and the big monk on the wall, as well as cartoons created by the monk himself.
The master of communication has a clear outline, exquisite appearance, great patience and kindness.
At 4: 30 the next morning, the distant bell rang like a silver bell. For me, who goes to bed after 2 o'clock every night, I don't find it difficult to get up except that I feel cold. Quite simply, whether you can get up the next morning actually depends on whether you want to get up before going to bed the night before. If you decide that you must get up on time the next day, you can do it.
At 5: 10, Wanfo Hall's chanting ceremony started on time.
The chanting activity lasted for an hour, and we followed Master to complete the whole ceremony.
The solemn hall of ten thousand buddhas.
At half past six, breakfast officially begins, which should be called "court". Today's breakfast includes steamed bread, peanuts, sesame sugar packets, vegetables and millet porridge.
After breakfast, I went back to the dormitory, and it was still dark.
Zhao Zhou's stupa is the essence of the temple and can be seen from almost any angle outside.
A brief introduction of the famous Zen master in history is posted on the wall.
At 7: 30, the sun rose in Ran Ran, and today's activities began.
Master Chuan Xue showed us around the temple.
It's so cold. I'm still shivering in this package.
In order to advocate the idea of life Zen and make Buddhism better integrated into society, Berlin Zen Temple holds a "Life Zen Summer Camp" for the society every year from 1993. Participants in the summer camp are all Buddhist youths aged 18 ~ 30, with about 250 people in each session. During the seven-day temple life, they will participate in activities such as chanting, meditation, listening to Buddhist lectures, drinking tea and having sex. Campers know the profoundness of Buddhism in a brand-new environment, seek the truth, goodness and beauty that have been sealed in their hearts for a long time, and experience the transcendence and peace of Buddhism. Since the summer camp was held, it has been praised and praised by government leaders at all levels and people from all walks of life inside and outside the school.
Sunlight has plated the Wanfo Temple with a layer of golden light. This is where we go to the temple in the morning.
