I am on the other side of the world: thoughts on Chile

Long-distance journey: Inexplicable excitement

After a 40-hour journey, when the plane finally landed at the San Diego Airport, it felt a little unreal. The world that was extremely far away in his imagination actually appeared under his feet. A dozen hours ago, I was still wearing a down jacket in Amsterdam. When I fell asleep tiredly, I opened my eyes and saw that the noon sun in the southern hemisphere was already making me dizzy.

When the plane was about to land, I couldn't help but stretch my neck to take a look at the scenery outside the window. Although the view from the middle seat is extremely limited, I enjoy it every time the scenery rises and falls. Standing high and looking far into the distance, an indescribable pleasure arises spontaneously.

The waiting time at the Amsterdam Airport lasted for more than ten hours. I found various ways to pass the boring time. Of course, the most common thing was to look out the window and see the planes taking off and landing, and the various groups of people coming and going in the airport. Crowds, the radio announced over and over again flights to all over the world...

From early morning to night, the time to take off finally came, and it was still early morning when we arrived in Argentina, from Buenos Aires Looking out at the Aires Airport, there is a very desolate feeling. There are only a handful of planes parked on the empty tarmac. I can't help but sigh that this is the edge rather than the center. When I think of arriving in the Netherlands, it was also early in the morning, and a plane would take off almost every few minutes. Compared with the busyness and bustling of Amsterdam Airport, it seemed much deserted here.

Of course, the breeze is gentle, the white clouds are blooming, and the distant country is a curious scenery at every glance. I remembered what Teacher Xiaosong once said about Argentina. Although there was only one scene in front of me and the stay was only two hours, I still felt the decline here. This is no longer the developed Argentina. ·······

I didn’t have time to think too much, because the long flight and the in-flight meals that I didn’t have time to adapt to made me feel that there was no greater happiness than squatting in a large size. The relief after release made me feel full of energy again. Looking into the distance, I suddenly had the idea that Messi would have to walk through this place when he went home. Would he also squat in this toilet? I suddenly felt very excited. Messi and I had also crossed paths in different time and space. Haha, I couldn't help it, so I told my wife this idea in a serious manner. As expected, she responded with disdain and regarded me as a lunatic. Of course it doesn't matter, because you just need to understand this feeling of excitement.

A minor incident at the airport: Things were confiscated

After arriving in San Diego, it still took a lot of time from getting off the plane to leaving the airport. There are always things that make people unhappy. For example, the peppercorns, cinnamon bark, star anise, dried chrysanthemums and other things we brought were confiscated. No one knows whether we declared it too honestly or whether it was bad luck as the airport pick-up teacher said.

The Chinese aunt next to me was also very pitiful. Her luggage was constantly being checked. At a glance, it was estimated that there was a lot of useful information, but in the end, I couldn't escape the fate of flying halfway around the world only to be confiscated a hundred meters from the exit. I have to lament that time and space will change many things that are taken for granted and deep-rooted in our hearts, but for the Chinese stomach, it seems that not much can be changed...

Weather conditions: There is a big temperature difference between morning and evening

Thanks to the appearance of classmate Yan and the driver, the worrying mood was swept away. We loaded up our luggage and rushed on the way to Vina, the heat wave was rolling in. The vegetation on the nearby mountains is not lush. When the car approached the Valparaiso region, the vegetation on the mountains began to become dense, and regular and flat vineyards came into view in patches. When we arrived in Vina, the temperature suddenly dropped. Although it was only more than an hour's drive away, the climate in San Diego was obviously different from that here.

I am slowly getting used to it these days. The morning here does not light up until seven or eight o'clock, and the sun does not set until eight o'clock. The temperature difference between morning and evening is relatively large. It should be said that there is a big temperature difference between when the sun is shining and when there is no sun. However, anyone who comes from China, excluding Xinjiang and Tibet, will feel that there is nothing to say about the air.

Diet situation: Overwhelming

Talking about food, compared with the Chinese where food is their first priority, the people here are simply living in dire straits. There are people who are worse off than them, and those are definitely Chinese people like us (temporarily staying in hotels and unable to cook our own meals). All day long, I was really worried about food. Unless I was extremely hungry, I would definitely not be able to eat that food. Even if they are too hungry to walk, their food is tasteless. I'm not a foodie at all, and I'm really not picky about what I eat. But if I'm like this, I think it's even more difficult for others, like my wife, who only needs to eat two meals a day...

In shopping malls and on the streets, there are basically all kinds of fast food we talk about, pizza, burgers, French fries, hot dogs, Coke and Sprite. In just a few days, I have eaten all the foreign fast food that has been in China for several years. Reluctantly, I bought my own bread and brought it back to Lao Ganma to eat...

I remembered that in Quito before, at least there was paella and pasta in the center. I walked around here and found that it is not easy to eat rice. It can be seen that the locals really don't care about what they eat.

Fruit and red wine: Refresh your knowledge

Fruit, South America is rich in products and there are many types of fruits. Speaking of Chile, many people who are unfamiliar with this country don’t know that there are indeed very few cherries. In fact, there are no cherries in the big supermarkets and market stores here. After listening to Teacher Yan, I learned that Chilean cherries also have a season, which only lasts for one month, and only the ones with bad quality are. Products of good quality have already crossed the Pacific and appeared in our supermarkets. I immediately understood that before coming here, I had seen many expensive and good-quality cherries in supermarkets in Guangzhou, some even reaching three figures. It’s really hard for Chilean people. In order to make some money, they sell their cherries to China...

Red wine, this world-famous Chilean product, is really cheap here. Although I don’t understand it at all, red wines over 100 yuan are rarely seen in large supermarkets, and most of them only cost a few dozen yuan. I once saw a movie that talked about red wine. Many people thought France was the best. In fact, World War II caused some damage to the early French vineyards. Many of today's French vineyards were replanted after World War II. But Chile does not. The seeds in their vineyards are still old varieties...

Of course I don't understand, but this can also explain the quality of Chilean red wine. Looking at the dazzling array of red wine, I felt a burst of joy in my heart, and secretly decided that after I rented the house, I would have two taels of wine every day.

Clothing and Safety Issues: An Unexpected Surprise

An unexpected surprise. Everyone has their own concerns. For example, in recent years, I especially like sportswear and sports shoes. . Under Armour, which I like very much, almost most of the clothes are one to two hundred yuan cheaper than in China, and the same goes for shoes, not counting holiday discounts of course. In the streets and alleys, men, women, old and young all wear relatively good sports shoes. It is obvious that the sports equipment here is relatively inexpensive and the people here love sports. It really surprised me to find Slade Jack & Jones in the big shopping mall in Vina, and the price is indeed much cheaper.

It is also worth mentioning the security situation. It has long been said that Chile has the highest security index in Latin America. From here alone, it is worthy of its name. You can go out with a backpack here, and you can still walk on the road at eight o'clock. This is really unexpected. As the only OECD member state and the only developed region in South America, it is easy to feel some intuitive characteristics. For example, food is relatively expensive, labor services are relatively expensive, transportation costs are relatively high, but clothing, shoes and hats are relatively cheap. Obviously, food, clothing, housing and transportation are relatively expensive, mostly in developed areas, such as our Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Of course, I don’t know much about commodities, oil prices and housing prices, so it’s hard for me to make my own judgment.

Love in Vina: It feels very comfortable

Vina is a coastal city and a famous tourist destination in Chile. Integrating the characteristics of Latin America, there are many stray dogs in the city sleeping leisurely, and many pigeons waddling at your feet to look for food. The same is true for the pigeons in Quito, but they are far less unscrupulous than here. The white patches on the benches in the park are evidence of their crimes. The pelicans stood on the bridge and took photos without any hesitation.

Beautiful seaside apartments, leisurely people coming and going, laughter, playful children, rolling waves, seagulls, and beautiful women clinging to their sides...

Needless to say, it’s just that the quiet years are so scary. At this moment, if I have a bowl of hot dry noodles or beef noodles, I think God can't bless it any more. Two words are enough: perfect.

I’ll just write my impressions of Chile here. Learn more before continuing to share.
