The blind man thought that the child had stolen his cotton-padded jacket, and the child's father saw that the child had given away the cotton-padded jacket without permission, so one scolded and the other beat. Children don't argue, don't cry and bear the burden of humiliation.

Dao Xin feels that the child can not only show great sympathy, but also endure unbearable things. With the consent of the child's parents, he was accepted as an apprentice and given the dharma name "Hong Ren". Daoxin entered Shuangfeng Mountain in Huangmei in the first year of Wude in the Tang Dynasty (6 18), and lived there for 30 years, with a large number of disciples up to 500.

Later, Hongren moved to Dongshan, where he lived for 20 years and there were as many as 700 people. Hong Ren often sits in silence without writing down his words. He just talks about Hyunri and teaches others silently.

He let his disciples live in the barren hills, settle down in one place, engage in labor, and be self-sufficient in production, thus creating the first example of "agricultural Zen life". The fourth ancestor's Zen Buddhism is based on the Lengga Sutra, the mind as the Sect, and the second is based on a line of Samadhi in Manjusri Prajna Sutra.

Hong Ren, the fifth ancestor, inherited the Zen style of Taoism, and often advised monks and nuns to hold the Diamond Sutra, preaching that everything in the world is illusory and unreal, and people should not cling to the real world, but should form their own system.
