Jiayuguan is a temperate continental desert climate, with an average annual temperature of 6.7℃-7.7℃ and an annual sunshine of 3000.2 hours. The annual average natural precipitation is 85.3 mm, and the evaporation is 265,438 0.49 mm. The frost-free period of the whole year is about 130 days.

Jiayuguan is the transportation hub of the ancient Silk Road and the starting point of the western end of the Great Wall in Wan Li, Qin. Here, the "Silk Road" for economic and cultural exchanges between China and the West, which was opened more than 2,000 years ago, and the "ancient battlefields" fought by military strategists in past dynasties are faintly visible. Jiayuguan City is a new modern city developed with the construction of "jiuquan iron and steel Company", a key construction project of the National Tenth Five-Year Plan. Named after Jiayuguan, it is the western end of the Ming Great Wall. Sunan Jingtieshan Iron Mine originally belonged to Jiuquan County and was discovered in 1955. 1958, jiuquan iron and steel company was established, focusing on the original towns, drawing out some areas under the jurisdiction of Jiuquan County and Sunan County, and establishing the preparatory committee of Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province. Established in 1965, 197 1 was approved as a provincial city in the State Council.
