Is the history of football a tragic tragedy?

Heisel tragedy

On May 29th, 1985, Liverpool and Juventus met in the final of the European Champions Cup at Heisel Stadium in Brussels. Before the UEFA competition, a stand behind the goal was allocated to Liverpool fans, but many Juventus fans bought tickets for the stand from the Belgian. In the stands, there are not enough police and staff to separate the two teams of fans. In the game, there are constant insults and throwing behaviors from fans of both sides. Football hooligans mixed with Liverpool fans fought with Juventus fans, which led to the collapse of the stands, killing 39 Juventus fans on the spot and injuring more than 3 people. This is the famous "Heisel tragedy". Liverpool also lost the Champions League. After the game, all English teams were banned from participating in European competitions for five years, while Liverpool was banned for seven years. Since then, the red army has been greatly weakened and has been unable to repeat its peak state for many years.

Hillsborough Massacre

On May 7, 1989, the semi-final of the FA Cup was held at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, with Liverpool and Nottingham Forest playing against each other.

The stands No.3 and No.4 behind the goal are the most popular. They were full 2 minutes before the game. At the beginning of the game, there were about twice as many fans as designed. Because there were no fixed seats, the crowded fans in the stands pushed and bumped against each other, but the fans at the entrance didn't know that the stands were full. They continued to crowd the stadium and pressed the fans in the front row to the fence. At this time, the police at the stadium stood near the center line to prevent the Liverpool fans from "attacking" the forest fans. Desperate fans desperately overthrew the fence, some people climbed over the fence and escaped, while a large number of fans were crushed to death alive. This tragedy killed 96 people and injured more than 1 people. The incompetence of the police and the poor condition of the stadium are the main reasons for this disaster.

After the Hillsborough tragedy, the English Football Association ordered the removal of all the stands without seats. In order to commemorate these fans who died, the Liverpool team's team song was changed to "You'll never walk alone" so as not to forget the tragedy. Today, the Hillsborough Monument stands forever at Anfield

Moscow Tragedy

On October 2th, 1982, a European Cup match was held at Lenin Stadium in Moscow, with Spartak Moscow playing against Harlem, the Netherlands. Because the weather was very cold at that time, there were unusually few fans coming to watch the game, and only 1 thousand tickets were sold in the stadium with a capacity of 1 thousand people. In order to save trouble, the stadium management department concentrated all the spectators in the stands in Area C, and the stadium staff seriously violated the safety regulations of the stadium, only opening one entrance of the stands in Area C and locking all the entrances and exits of other stands.

At the end of the game, when the home team had scored a goal and the victory was decided, the fans at the scene estimated that the game would be over, so they got up and prepared to leave early and headed for the only open exit. But one minute before the end, the game suddenly came to a climax again. The home team pursued the victory and scored a goal, and immediately there was a burst of cheers in the stands. Many spectators who had walked off the stands and walked to the exit were attracted by the cheers and immediately turned around and hugged back to see what was going on. At this moment, the final whistle sounded, and the excited audience in the stands began to leave and hug. Two streams of people meet at the narrow exit like two surging tides and collide violently. Because of the crowded people, no one can control the flow of people pushing each other. Those who don't know the truth at the back only care about squeezing the people in front, and the people in front leave slowly in a crowded situation. In this way, the exit is blocked. With more and more people leaving, some people can't control their bodies, and they can't stand the great pressure and suffocate and faint. Some people who have been pushed down can't stand up any more. Thousands of feet have stepped on them, crying, swearing and groaning are intertwined, and the tragedy of the scene is unbearable. Eventually, more than 34 people suffered.

They rushed to the entrances like crazy. There were tens of thousands of fans at the entrance of the west stand, and they immediately merged into a huge force, impacting the iron gate of the stadium. Some fans even climbed the iron gate and prepared to jump into the stadium. In order to disperse the fans and control the situation, the police illegally fired tear gas. Under the push of fans, the iron gate of the stadium was squeezed down, and the fans who rushed in front were caught off guard, and then fell on the iron gate, and were trampled under the feet of a large number of fans who poured in from behind. People knew that someone was lying on the ground, but they couldn't stop at all, so they could only step on the people in front and continue to pour into the stadium. However, there is no effective security system in the stadium, which makes the police unable to cope with the riots of fans. In order to control the chaotic situation, the police who maintained order had to use tear gas to disperse the fans, but many policemen abused tear gas, which caused many fans to panic.
