The Historical Evolution of Nanjing Institute of Meteorology

Founded in 192 1, Zhu Kezhen established the Department of Geography and the Department of Meteorology (major) in Southeast University.

1930, National Central University established the Department of Geography and Meteorology. (Remarks: 1927, National Southeast University merged with eight other public schools and was renamed as "National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University". Later, it was renamed as "National Jiangsu University" on February 1928; /kloc-In May of 0/6, the Executive Yuan of the National Government made a resolution to rename "National Jiangsu University" as "National Central University").

(Remarks:1On August 8th, 949, National Central University was renamed as National Nanjing University) On September 3rd, 0953, Director Tu held a director's office meeting to discuss and study the establishment of a hydrometeorological research institute relying on the Department of Meteorology of Nanjing University, and made a decision to build the institute. 1On August 25th, 954, Mr. Zhu Kezhen, then vice president of China Academy of Sciences and chairman of China Meteorological Society, made a speech in the Minutes of the Second National Congress of China Meteorological Society, calling on the education department to set up a hydrometeorological research institute for the first time.

1956 In July, Tu Tu said in his speech at the third session of the First National People's Congress: "There is an extreme shortage of senior technical cadres, and there are only 104 college graduates in the national meteorological business system ... I hope that the higher education department will expand the enrollment quota of the meteorological department or set up a meteorological college."

On July 3 1959 and 3 1, the State Council issued the Notice on Strengthening Meteorological Work, pointing out that the meteorological system urgently needs a large number of middle and senior technicians with theoretical knowledge system and strong practical ability. Only by establishing a university to train senior meteorological professionals can we meet this urgent social demand.

The report states the number of college graduates of on-the-job technical cadres in the national meteorological system, the current and future needs of meteorological development for middle and senior professional and technical personnel, the training situation of meteorological professionals in existing universities, and the process of discussion and communication with the Ministry of Education, jiangsu provincial party committee, Nanjing University and other units on the preparation of meteorological universities.

At this point, the Institute of Meteorology of Nanjing University, directly under central weather bureau and undertaken by Jiangsu Province, officially entered the preparatory stage.

With the direct help of Nanjing University,1July, 1960, three majors of weather and dynamic meteorology, atmospheric physics and climatology enrolled 169 freshmen, mainly from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, and a few from meteorological departments. Nanjing University is responsible for the training of 0/960 students in the first three years, and completed the teaching of public courses, basic courses and some professional basic courses. Teaching is shared with students from the Department of Meteorology of Nanjing University, and the college is responsible for teaching guidance and student management.

1963 On May 14, the Ministry of Education and central weather bureau jointly issued a document, agreeing that the School of Meteorology of Nanjing University should be renamed Nanjing Meteorological College.

From 1966 to 1976, during the Cultural Revolution, the school's work was disturbed and destroyed, and the normal teaching order was destroyed, and enrollment and classes were stopped for six years. 1978 February 17, the State Council forwarded the report of the Ministry of Education on restoring and running national key institutions of higher learning, and Nanjing Institute of Meteorology was identified as a national key university.

1978 In April, central weather bureau issued the Reply on the Capital Construction Task Book of1978-198/0, which made new arrangements for the school scale, major and capital construction tasks after being listed as a national key university.

The school was approved by China Meteorological Bureau as a pilot unit for comprehensive reform of the national meteorological department, and formulated a comprehensive reform plan for Nanjing Meteorological College. The plan includes nine supporting plans and an evaluation index system, including strengthening the curriculum construction plan, the provisional regulations on the training of young teachers, the staffing plan and the plan to reduce all kinds of personnel, and the implementation plan of rewarding the excellent and punishing the poor.

On February 12, 2000, the General Office of the State Council forwarded the Notice of the Ministry of Education and other departments on Implementing Opinions on Adjusting the Management System and Layout Structure of Schools Affiliated to Departments (Units) in the State Council (Guo Ban Fa [2000] 1 1No.), and decided that Nanjing Institute of Meteorology should be changed from the original management under China Meteorological Bureau to the management-oriented mode in Jiangsu Province, and the school management system changed. After the transformation, the leaders of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education visited the school for inspection and guidance many times.

On March 15, 2002, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education approved the establishment of private Binjiang College.

In May 2004, it was upgraded to Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology. On June165438+1October 18, the school held the opening ceremony of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology.
