The county covers a total area of 2,820 square kilometers and governs 17 towns (streets) and 499 villages (communities). During the Spring and Autumn Period, Danyang, the capital of Chu, was located. In the 800-year history of Chu, Danyang has been its capital for more than 300 years. Chu people took Danyang as the starting point and decided to dominate, expand their territory and conquer the south all the way during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. They have unified more than 50 small countries, become the hegemon of the South, and created splendid culture. It has trained a generation of influential historical figures, such as Shang Sheng Fan Li, historian Ye Fan and materialist thinker Fan Zhen.

zone

Xichuan is a horseshoe-shaped terrain protruding from northwest to southeast, with low mountainous areas in the northwest, hilly areas in the middle, hilly areas and alluvial plains in the southeast. Danjiangkou Reservoir, the largest artificial lake in Asia, is located in the south of Xichuan.

The north and northwest of the county belong to the south of Funiu Mountain, which is an extension of the eastern Qinling Mountains. The mountains at an altitude of about 900 meters are continuous from north to south. There are Qinling Mountains and Daba Mountain in the west and southwest of the county seat. The elevations of the east and west peaks of Zoumaling bordering Hubei are1033m and1086m respectively. The east of Danjiangkou Reservoir belongs to the southwest edge of Nanyang Basin, with a flat terrain and a ridge shape.

climate

Xichuan belongs to the monsoon climate zone of transition from north subtropical zone to warm temperate zone. The four seasons are characterized by rapid recovery in spring (March-May), many southeast winds, violent temperature fluctuations, rainy days in April and frequent strong winds in May. In summer (June-August), rainfall is concentrated, with uneven drought and flood, with more drought in early summer and more rainfall in middle and late summer.

Autumn (September-165438+1October) is cool and rainy, and the temperature and rainfall drop sharply in late autumn. In winter (65438+February-February), it is windy and dry in the northwest. Due to the natural barriers of Qinling Mountains and Funiu Mountain in the northwest and the two defense lines formed by the mountains in the northwest, the cold air mass in the north has been prevented from invading southward to some extent. The annual average temperature 15.8℃ is about 2℃ higher than that in the eastern part of the same latitude, and the frost-free period is about 228 days.
